Campus Departments Chancellor

Job Description

The Office of the Chancellor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is seeking a dynamic and strategic individual to serve as the Director of Executive Events, reporting to the Chancellor's Chief of Staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution and managerial coordination of executive-level events for the Chancellor's Office.

Candidates must demonstrate their ability to manage complex planning logistics, and be a proactive, self-motivated, creative and collaborative leader able to manage all aspects of intimate and large-scale events.

The Director of Executive Events will work directly with the Chancellor's Chief of Staff, other senior executives, and events offices and stakeholders across campus to successfully execute a wide range of signature events such as Commencement and the State of the University Address, and smaller events such as dinners and receptions hosted by the Chancellor.

The successful candidate for this role must possess excellent communication and event-planning skills along with the ability to collaborate with campus stakeholders and external vendors to ensure a successful event that meets organizational goals and expectations.

Leveraging their deep expertise, the Director of Executive Events balances logistics, financial planning, and vendor management duties with creativity and insight.

Successful candidates should excel at multitasking and balancing big picture concerns with focused details.

Key Responsibilities

Communication Skills and Event Management

  • Provides frequent and robust communications to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborates across campus constituencies
  • Manages a diverse variety of events, ranging from small dinners to large, campus-wide events
  • Leads the creation, implementation and execution of events from ideation to completion

Office Leadership

  • Manages the Executive Events office, creating policies and procedures for day-to-day operations
  • Spearheads the campus VIP notification protocol system, campus event protocols process, and them commencement honorary degree process
  • Serves as the campus resource on developing and maintaining event standards and protocols including social and event etiquette for all aspects of events

Strategic Planning

  • Provides reports on events and for the strategic plan
  • Reviews all executed events, creates summaries, tracks ROI, and reports to event stakeholders to determine best use of event engagement tools for continued success
  • Thinks critically about events, their purpose, and how to improve delivery or make necessary changes for future growth

Fiscal Management

  • Develops, manages and oversees complex event budgets
  • Demonstrates knowledge in cost analysis and drafting budget proposals with skill in monitoring expenditures for each event

Shift

This is a full-time, benefit eligible staff position. This position involves supporting events that require working early morning, evenings and the occasional weekend. This position is expected to be on campus five days a week, Monday through Friday. Flexible work arrangements, such as telework, may be approved in advance for special circumstances.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five-10 years' experience in large-scale special events, public relations or related area.
  • Successful candidates will have previous experience with volunteer management, as well as proven management of large-scale events.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to take imitative and work with minimal supervision and to lead in a team setting is a preferred qualification.
  • Experience with virtual event platforms such as Zoom
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: 69,100 - 102,000
Grade: GGS- 012
