North Wind Solutions is a Government contracting small business with operations at military and civilian installations across the United States. The company's focus is facilities operation and maintenance, waste management and radiological services, security control and force protection, and environmental services.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The North Wind Enterprise Application Services organization develops and maintains hundreds of custom and commercial-off-the-shelf software applications at the Hanford Site in Richland, WA. This is one of the largest environmental cleanup projects in the world, focused on river protection, habitat restoration, and environmental remediation. The enterprise is in the midst of a major modernization effort towards a more agile methodology. In this phase of the transformation, the organization must maintain current software development processes while implementing new, agile processes alongside them.
In this context, the Systems Analyst is a technical writing and business process improvement role. The Systems Analyst provides support and works with the entire organization, assisting with various documentation assignments, technical writing and other project activities. The Systems Analyst will help drive this evolution by supporting the managers, project managers and software engineers with all phases of Information Technology work and deliverables.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible and accountable for providing documentation support including development and writing of IT documents, analysis of the organization's documents and documentation process, and other activities related to IT documentation throughout the software development lifecycle. This candidate must be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Information Management team and customers, communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and exercise sound judgment and discretion. The Systems Analyst will assist with all aspects of documentation within the projects and organization under the direction of the Information Management leadership team.
Typical duties and responsibilities could include:
- Analysis and verification of all required IT project documentation
- Create detailed and well-structured software requirement documents, user stories, and use cases, maintaining traceability throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Business process analysis and creation of process flow charts, data flow diagrams, and system integration diagrams.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and end-users to elicit and document software requirements, ensuring a clear and comprehensive understanding of project objectives.
- Assist in the implementation of IT solutions.
- Serve as a liaison between technical development teams and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and ensuring alignment with project goals.Assist in Plan/Procedure analysis and writing.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to design test cases, scenarios, and test plans based on documented requirements.
- Assist and initiate the writing of user manuals.
- Support document release process.
- Support of required status reports and documents including weekly reports.
- Perform all work safely and in compliance with environmental obligations using the core functions and core elements of the Integrated Safety Management System/Environmental Management System (ISMS/EMS).
- Work directly with all levels of software engineers, project managers, managers, customers, and software quality engineers.
- Solve problems that are difficult but typically not complex.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in business administration, communications, computer science or other relevant area of study.
- 8+ years of experience as a software analyst.
- 5+ years of technical writing/editing experience.
- 5+ years working in an Agile environment.

Special Requirements:
- Must pass pre-employment background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience using modern cloud collaboration environments such as Microsoft O365, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience developing process flow diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.
- Familiarity with software application development and software lifecycle documentation.
- Familiarity with software testing principles.
- Hanford or DOE Complex Site work experience.
- Experience working in a Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) or similar regulatory environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. The work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The work may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Works mainly in typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
