FOX 5 Atlanta is a leading news organization dedicated to delivering high-quality news content across broadcast and streaming platforms. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief News Videojournalist to lead our talented team of videojournalists in capturing and producing compelling news footage.

The Chief News Videojournalist will manage the daily tasks and assignments of the videojournalist team, ensuring the production of high-quality news footage. This role involves overseeing the upkeep and functionality of all field newsgathering equipment and collaborating with other news managers to plan and execute coverage of major news events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the team of videojournalists in the collection and presentation of news content, both live and pre-produced, across broadcast and streaming platforms.

  • Manage work schedules, including vacation planning, for videojournalists.

  • Uphold high standards for videojournalists by providing regular feedback and critiques of their work.

  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for videojournalist staff members.

  • Collaborate with other news managers to plan, staff, and execute coverage of major news events.

  • Work alongside the Engineering Department and News Operations Manager to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of equipment.

  • Evaluate, test, and implement new news gathering and distribution technologies, including IP-based systems and cellular delivery.

  • Assess the need for and order necessary equipment and supplies for videojournalists.

  • Capture video, audio, and still images in the field, newsroom, and studio.

  • Gather information and obtain sound at the scene of news events.

  • Edit news stories on tight deadlines both in the newsroom and in the field.

  • Operate audio, video, and live transmission equipment for remote live broadcasts.

  • Ensures staff log into the Samsara system at the start of their shifts to ensure accurate operation of software.

  • Promote a culture of safety and responsibility by conducting regular safety training sessions.

  • Inform News management of any accidents and ensure an incident report is submitted.

  • Report any equipment damage or theft to News management.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in news videography and editing under tight deadlines.

  • Capable of effectively supervising a team of employees.

  • Able to communicate clearly and interact courteously with the public, public officials, and staff.

  • Computer literate.

  • Willing to learn the newsroom computer system after hiring.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $95,000.00-114,750.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
