The Test Project Engineer will support aircraft system/subsystems modification and testing on a government test vehicle.This part-time position is Senior level.
Responsibilities:
- Subject Matter Expert for the aircraft. Must be able to advise Maintenance Technicians and Government Project Engineers on aircraft system and subsystem operations, to include electrical, avionics, mechanical, propulsion, flight controls, instrumentation, and modifications.
- Aircraft modification oversight - Work with customers to determine end state objectives for test modifications and assist customers with defining aircraft integration Work through aircraft integration design, timelines, and installation/maintenance procedures.Ensure integration is compatible with customer objectives for data collection.
- Understand and oversee the aircraft modification process to Assist the government team with assembling aircraft modification packages for permanent and temporary modifications.Communicate with modification design teams to ensure designs are properly documented and justified to accurately support modification packages.
- Serve as advisor to aircraft modification design work. Assist the various technician specialties with system and subsystem modification design.
- Generate mission planning materials for test missions. Be familiar with mission planning hardware and software to implement route and waypoint planning while considering aircraft, airspace, and mission limitations.
- Coordinate with agencies internal and external to the test range when additional customer support is requested.
- Manage organizational resources to include:
- balance incoming support requests with missions that are already scheduled
- ensure we know what customers are asking for on each mission
- coordinate requests with maintenance team
- support external customers visit requests for upcoming mod work
- Help customers define data collection requirements and go/no-go criteria to meet test objectives by communicating capabilities of the organization.
- Provide integrated engineering/analysis support for design reviews, test planning working groups, test card preparation, execution, and post-flight reports.
- Be capable and willing to work in a remote environment with a small but highly motivated team.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years' experience with aircraft maintenance and/or modification of avionics systems (Radar/lR/EW), weapons, external stores, and/or sensor testing
- Experience with Electronic Warfare testing
- Have a "Team" mentality towards providing integrated engineering support for design reviews, test planning working groups, test card preparation, disciplined test execution, and collaborate on/author post-flight reports
- Experience in coordinating and executing tests on various government open air test ranges
- Work well in a team environment as well as independently and have above average communication and writing skills
- Versed in Microsoft Office products to support test programs
- Aptitude and patience to process and analyze complex system test data
- Aptitude to learn new software tools
Desired Experience/Skills:
- Ability to interpret, modify, or create from scratch wiring diagrams Experience with MATLAB or other data analysis tools
- Position requires willingness to accept changing and evolving roles and responsibilities in support of customer requirements and needs
- Positive attitude, self-starter, and an ability to work with little supervision
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor and/or Master of Science (Aeronautical/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Physics, or similar STEM field), or 10+ years of extensive experience working with aircraft systems
Clearance Requirements:
Active TS Clearance required
U.S. Citizenship is required
