A Brief Overview

The Research Navigator will serve as a vital liaison between researchers, research staff, and external stakeholders. The Research Navigator will focus on facilitating and enhancing the research process, ensuring that projects move forward smoothly by managing information flow, coordinating resources, supporting strategic research initiatives, and providing office administrative support.

What You Will Do



  • Owns and implements the UH Research Credentialing process to provide Non-UH personnel proper access to UH patients' Protected Health Information (UH PHI) under Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved research studies. (45%)
       Ongoing monitoring and assessment of the process to provide excellent customer service and protection to UH. Continually make improvements to the computerized tracking system to track non-UH personnel approvals and renewals.
       Data collection and analysis.
       Education and oversight of individuals who are seeking to go through or who have gone through the UH Research Credentialing process.
  • Research Coordination: Act as a key central point of contact for researchers attempting to navigate Clinical Research Center services and resources, ensuring effective communication among internal teams, external stakeholders, and UH researchers. (50%)
       Assists Principal Investigators new to UH in transferring existing research to UH.
       Manages new study opportunities and connects opportunities with the UH research community.
       Serves as a resource for research teams and patients for research questions and connects them to the appropriate teams/individual.
       Provides information/referrals in a courteous, accurate, and timely manner
       Conducts follow up calls based on clinical trial referrals
       Provide training and support to researchers and staff on research tools, clinical research best practices, and navigating research processes. Acts as a department liaison on interdepartmental committees.
       Develops collaborative relationships with Clinical Research Center teams, Principal Investigators, research staff, and other stakeholders
       Liaise with other relevant UH departments such as UH Ventures and Institutional Relations & Development to support development of new research.
       Project Management
       Program Development
         * Develop, implement and assess services and program evaluation tools for navigation effectiveness
         * Designs program evaluations and data collection needs
         * Collect and analyze data on services and satisfaction
       Community outreach
       Send research communications to the UH research community
       Leads the CRC initiatives for continuous improvement such as sending out annual feedback surveys, assessing the data, creating plans for improvement, and responding to research community feedback.
  • Program Development
       Develop, implement and assess services and program evaluation tools for navigation effectiveness
       Designs program evaluations and data collection needs
       Collect and analyze data on services and satisfaction


Additional Responsibilities



  • Assist with research education development. (5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
