The Assistant Cheerleading Coach will support the Head Cheerleading Coach in managing the administration and coaching needs of the Davidson College spirit programs, with a primary focus on the cheerleading program's daily operations. The ideal candidate has a strong expertise in coaching fundamentals, collegiate-level skills, game-day presence, leadership, and competition preparation, with a proven ability to recruit, evaluate, and train cheerleaders and mascots. This is a part-time position and is compensated on an hourly basis. Please note that it does not include eligibility for full-time employee benefits. Essential Functions: 
  
 
    
  - Plan and conduct regular practices focused on skill development, performance precision, and technique.
 - Provide individualized coaching and feedback to enhance athletes' skills, ensuring safety and adherence to Division 1 standards.
 - Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and implement progressive training programs in partnership with strength and conditioning staff to meet physical development goals.
 - Coordinate game day performances and sideline activities, working with the band and Fan Experience team to enhance fan engagement.
 - Assist with choreography to ensure performances align with school spirit and game themes.
 - Recruit strong student-athletes by attending camps, recruiting events, and clinics and hosting on-campus recruitment clinics. Develop recruitment strategies in alignment with admissions requirements to promote the program's growth.
 - Provide individualized coaching and feedback to athletes to enhance their skills and overall performance.
 - Foster a positive and supportive team environment, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
 - Assist with administrative tasks, including team communication, scheduling, equipment management, and travel coordination. Perform equipment inventory and check-ins to ensure smooth operations.
 - Develops a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the activities and thoroughly familiarizes all applicable college rules and regulations.
 - Assist with mascot management by coordinating appearances throughout the year and ensuring the mascot represents the college in a positive public-facing role.
 - Take on sport assignment coverage, including volleyball, men's and women's basketball, and other home events as needed.
 - Monitor adherence to team rules regarding conduct, behavior, and class attendance.
 - Engage in community outreach activities to promote the cheerleading program and attract prospective athletes.
 - Assist in fundraising activities as directed by the Head Coach.
 - Ensure compliance with Davidson College, NCAA, and conference regulations.
 - Chauffeur athletes and equipment to and from practices or games, as needed.
 - Meet attendance expectations as required for the position, including a willingness to work unusual hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
 - Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletics Department.
 
    
  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Qualifications 
 
   
 - Bachelor's degree required.
 - At least one year of coaching experience in cheerleading, preferably at the collegiate level, with direct involvement in collegiate or professional programs.
 - USA Cheer and CPR certified.
 - Proficient in coaching cheer fundamentals, collegiate-level skills, tumbling, game-day presence, sportsmanship, leadership, and competition preparation.
 - Strong ability to recruit, evaluate, supervise, and train cheerleaders, dancers, and mascots.
 - Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
 - Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and solve problems proactively.
 - Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
 - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and coordinate with campus personnel to resolve conflicts and enforce policies.
 - Strong customer service focus with the ability to inspire motivation, confidence, and enthusiasm in student-athletes.
 - Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends, to meet program demands.
