GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assists Operating Room (OR) staff and Anesthesia staff with various tasks related to surgical procedures and patient care in a safe and effective manner.



PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Performs surgical preps as ordered by physician.

3. *Transports blood products, specimens, supplies and equipment.

4. Assists with room set up as directed including opening sterile packages and gathering equipment and supplies.

5. Reacts to emergency situations promptly and according to departmental and facility protocols and procedures.

6. *Works closely with Materials Management on making sure OR and anesthesia inventory is stocked appropriately.

7. *Ensures anesthesia machines, carts, and scrub sinks are appropriately stocked including oxygen and carbon dioxide tanks and hat and shoe covers.

8. *Prints preference cards and assembles case carts with supplies and instruments for surgical procedures.

9. *Returns unused supplies and instruments to proper location.

10. *Assists operating room staff with getting equipment prepared for surgical procedures including assembly of equipment.

11. *Stocks fluids and blankets in warmer.

12. *Transports specimens to lab.

13. *Thoroughly cleans all operating rooms daily.

14. *Assists operating room staff with positioning of patients and transfer of patients.

15. Assists operating room staff with stocking the operating room.

16. Assists operating room staff with checking outdates in the department.

17. Assists with turnovers for OR staff and anesthesia.

18. Assists with notifying facilities and biomed about repairs.

19. Assists with docking of neptunes and stocking of supplies for neptunes.

20. Completes weekly and monthly cycle cleaning in the OR.

21. Works closely with Environmental Services on the use of cleaning supplies and equipment.

22. Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.

23. Follows all infection control practices including hand washing, standard precautions and isolation precautions.

24. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

25. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

26. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including state, federal, and accreditation regulations.

2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

3. Basic knowledge and understanding of use (i.e. fracture table, cysto table, shoulder positioner, hana table).

4. Ability to ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control.

5. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

7. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

8. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

10. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED preferred.



OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
