The Senior Inventory Manager leads, develops, improves, and directs all aspects of inventory execution and strategy at Meijer (ordering, replenishment, allocation, end of life, etc). This leadership position plays a significant role in overseeing the process and is directly accountable for ensuring that inventory levels are optimized to meet customer demand. This position provides leadership and direction to a team of inventory professionals through development and execution of business strategies that contribute to achieving financial goals and a best in class customer experience in regard to product availability (in stocks/on shelf availability).
Position follows a hybrid schedule: Monday-Wednesday in office, Thursday-Friday remote.
What You'll be Doing:
- Develop a partnership with merchandising leadership (GVP/VP/Director) to support the development of key merchandising strategies and tactics that deliver financial objectives and delivery ROI.
- Actively develop, coach, and mentor the Inventory Managers to maximize their individual skill set
- Design, implement, and coach inventory strategies and standardized processes to support the balance of new, carryover, and discontinued merchandise to support various KPI's (e,g, sales, margin, in stock, on shelf availability, turn, DMROI)
- Lead inventory review meetings directing the team to highlight the current state of the business and opportunity for continuous improvement.
- Drive accountability within the team to seek out in-season opportunities to maximize sales, margin, inventory turn, in stocks/OSA, and DMROI.
- Model and enforce fact-based analysis to drive inventory decisions across the team.
- Collaborate with merchandising leadership (GVP/VP/Director) to manage and develop relationships with key vendors within area of responsibility; defining strategies, developing and reinforcing corporate guidelines that drive profitability, manage inventory investment achieving ROI and drive future growth.
- Lead the department to drive efficiency and standardized best practices among inventory planning and replenishment.
- Accountable for managing resolution of key merchandising issues affecting internal and external customers: topics such as product flow and supply chain strategies, over-stocks/out of stocks, pricing, and new stores/remodel processes.
- Approve product flow strategies for both domestic and import programs to deliver optimum profit while ensuring they align with overall Meijer supply chain strategies.
- Work with merchandise leadership (GVP/VP/Director) to resolve conflict and teamwork issues within assigned teams to be sure they are operating effectively and efficiently.
- Responsible for key human resource functions for Business Analysts including: staffing, performance evaluations, salary administration, adherence to company policy.
- Influence and partner with others outside of the organization.
- Ensure timely and accurate communicate with internal stakeholders and external partners to day to day inventory and allocation issues.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to review, update and modernize inventory tools, processes, and technology.
- Support the development of pre-season financial strategies developed by the Planning COE to achieve planned sales, margin, and turn goals.
- Ensure timely and accurate communication with internal stakeholders and external partners to resolve day-to-day inventory and allocation issues
- Provide regular executive reporting and analysis on inventory levels, allocation performance, and supply chain efficiency to senior management
- Demonstrate flexibility and resiliency.
What You Bring with You (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree.
- 7+ years experience in inventory management and or inventory planning/forecasting/replenishment with a proven track record of success.
- Strategic agility with the ability to see ahead clearly and can anticipate future consequences and trends accurately.
- Recommend and lead positive change throughout the organization
- Excellent communication skills, with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the retail industry with understanding of specific product lines and core customer behavior.
- Results focused using performance targets and goals to drive self and team success.
- Experience leading and building effective teams with proven ability to build collaborative relationships across other organizations of the company.
- Office computer skills with the ability to learn company systems and tools.
