Overview

Report to the Medical Director and Manager of the Cardiovascular & General Ultrasound Department, perform diagnostic adult and pediatric echocardiograms. Participate in teaching, maintaining patient workflow and perform clerical duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Perform all vascular (imaging and non-imaging) exams and adult and pediatric echocardiograms as ordered by the Physicians.
  • 2. Assists Physician(s) and/or APRN/PA during imaging and/or procedures.
  • 3. Must be competent in adult echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms (exercise and dobutamine) and transesophageal echocardiograms. Must be competent in 3D and strain acquisition and rendering, and any additional technological advancements in echocardiography exams.
  • 4. Must be competent in carotid Doppler, venous Doppler, arterial Doppler, abdominal Doppler, non-imaging diagnostic testing, adult echoes, and cover off hour shifts.
  • 5. Must obtain and maintain competencies in intravenous insertion, administration of agitated saline and image enhancing agents.
  • 6. Participates in imaging competencies as requested by leadership to maintain imaging standards
  • 7. Maintains integrity and safety of equipment. Reports any equipment malfunctions or concerns to leadership or appropriate contact / department
  • 8. Responsible for the well-being of patients while they are in care of the Cardiovascular Ultrasound department, reassures and comforts patients as needed
  • 9. Assists in scheduling, arranging transportation and workflow of patients in the Cardiovascular Ultrasound department.
  • 10. Aids in inventory of supplies, procurement and storage.
  • 11. Aids in administrative functions including answering phones, coordinating with other departments, correspondence and other assignments related to the Cardiovascular Ultrasound department.
  • 12. Rotates weekends, evenings, holidays and on call assignments with fellow sonographers
  • 13. Responsible for the cleanliness and neatness of the Cardiovascular Ultrasound department and related equipment
  • 14. Participates in training of fellow sonographers and students from affiliated programs
  • 15. Maintains specific continued education credits pertinent to the lab?s accrediting body
  • 16. Prepares and maintains accurate records as directed; including entering information into the computer and reporting (EMR, PACs, CPACs).
  • 17. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate of an approved echocardiography ultrasound program. (Please see Registry requirements below.) Must have a working knowledge of pertinent equipment, scanning techniques, patient care, and evaluating patient status and emergency situations

EXPERIENCE

Documented one year fulltime echocardiography clinical experience; or completion of a formal two year program or equivalent in another allied health profession; or one year related clinical experience with bachelor?s degree unrelated to position.

LICENSURE

RDCS or RCS required in Adult Echocardiography. Registry for Vascular Sonography will be required within 18 months of the date of hire/transfer with either RVT or RVS credentials. If not registered, the first registry will need to be completed within 18 months of the date of hire/transfer, and the second registry to be completed by the third year from date of hire/transfer. For employees who average fewer than 20 hrs/week, deadline may be extended due to eligibility requirements to take registry exam. Unforeseen circumstances out of the control of the hospital department may extend training time frame. CPR Certification required. Additional RDCS in Pediatric Echocardiography a plus.
