Summary
Performs routine testing in a high complexity clinical diagnostic laboratory. Responsible for receipt of patient samples as well as the preparation of samples for microscopic examination and analysis by Pathology. This role troubleshoots on-hold cases and collaborates with the wider Laboratory Operations team to move samples effectively through the workflow. Also focuses on cutting, mounting, staining, and batching slides. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Ensure proper identification, sort specimens in accordance with priority and difficulty of work, and assign specimen numbers. Describe appearance of specimens; trim into blocks. Embed specimens ensuring proper orientation. Prepare specimens for a rapid frozen section diagnosis using liquid nitrogen and a cryostat microtome. Maintain quality control records. Determine when prescribed techniques and apparatus should be modified in order to meet required quality standards. Education Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? HT or HTL (ASCP) certification, or eligibility preferred Experience Physical Requirements
