Position Overview

The Lead Strategic Sourcing Manager is a member of the Innovation & Development Sourcing (IDS) - Supply Chain organization and acts as the ambassador for Exact Sciences supporting R&D, Clinical Trials, and New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts. This role is an architect of corporate supplier relationships, responsible for identifying external partner suppliers through market analysis and accountable for developing, executing, and managing associated category strategies leveraging hands-on supplier engagement experience and cross-functional collaboration to support fast-paced R&D, Clinical, and NPI environments. The Lead Strategic Sourcing Manger is expected to lead internal stakeholders and external suppliers to focus on functional business requirements and impacts to risk, cost, and quality systems. This role engages and influences senior and executive level leaders through advisory councils and core team participation. The scope and focus of work will vary and require working with a diverse team of cross-functional stakeholders and executives. Areas of focus include supplier negotiations, leadership influence, category analysis, supplier due diligence, and contract creation. A sourcing, procurement, or category-specific subject matter expertise background is required for this role. This role reports into the Associate Director, IDS

Essential Duties

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Partner with the Global Category Management team to architect strategies for external supplier spend related to all aspects of projects supporting R&D, Clinical Trials, and NPI's
  • Lead the implementation of sourcing strategies supporting early-phase innovation builds and R&D initiatives, ensuring supply readiness from concept through commercialization
  • Serve as a key liaison across cross-functional teams including R&D, Clinical, and Operations, translating technical requirements into sourcing solutions that enable product and process innovation
  • Manage external suppliers on behalf of the corporation to negotiate long-term, enterprise-wide relationships and contracts
  • Responsible for supporting project budget initiatives while balancing risk, cost, overall product availability, and ability to change factors.
  • Accountable for meeting project Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) targets
  • Proactively leads category-level sourcing strategy through executive influence and stakeholder engagement
  • Supports corporate sourcing policy through data analysis, market intelligence gathering, supplier negotiations/contracting.
  • Identifies and builds new supplier relationships to ensure Exact Sciences is on the forefront of new trends and supplier/technology opportunities.
  • Leads enterprise-critical contract negotiation with strategic supplier leadership to meet budget and risk mitigation objectives.
  • Directs project teams in the development and execution of Sourcing Events with input from cross-functional areas.
  • Supports Category Managers on business review strategy and holds suppliers accountable
  • Robust abilities to collaborate with Leaders, supplier executives, and decision-makers to find win-win solutions
  • Partners with Legal to author and review binding documents to reduce risk and improve `negotiation position
  • Manages several varied projects at one time, with frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability to make decisions with limited information and operate with autonomy.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills suitable for direct communication with corporate executives.
  • Robust ability to convey complex problems or issues within and across other functions.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability and means to travel between local Madison Exact Sciences locations.
  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in any aspect of Supply Chain Management, Life Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional industry experience in Supply Chain Management, Life Science, Engineering, or experience related to the essential duties
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiation with supplier leadership and enterprise level contract management principles, including a working understanding of contractual terms and conditions and risk mitigation.
  • Powerful communication skills appropriate for engaging with top-level management
  • Excellent critical thinking negotiating skills.
  • Exceptional leadership and time management skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional industry experience in Supply Chain Management, Life Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • 2+ years of intensive sourcing operations (RFx, analyses, etc) experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in any of the supported groups (Mfg, Clinical lab ops, R&D, Contracting, etc).
  • Experience with SAP and Coupa.
  • Experience working in regulated systems (ISO 13485/15189, CAP/CLIA).
  • Experience with international supply channels and customers.

Salary Range:

$125,350.00 - $212,750.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
