Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions |
McGeorge School of Law is seeking applicants for a non-tenure-track clinical faculty position leading the Elder and Health Law Clinic. The new professor will join our in-house clinical program to direct the Clinic in the model of a medical-legal partnership. In collaboration with medical professionals, the clinician will supervise and teach students in the practice of law providing direct representation for clients to address social determinants of health and health-harming legal needs. Attorneys and academics with expertise serving different patient populations will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
The supervisor will be responsible for learning about the needs of the community and existing programs and resources and will also teach and supervise students engaged in interprofessional collaboration. The clinician will be encouraged to partner with the University of the Pacific's premier School of Health Sciences to develop interprofessional educational opportunities that bring together law and health sciences students.
Clinical faculty at McGeorge train and mentor students, guiding their professional development as lawyers. Clinical faculty members contribute to the development and creation of clinical courses and programmatic requirements. Clinical faculty promote teaching, research and practical legal experience, and connections with and service to the Sacramento and McGeorge Communities. Essential skills involve teaching, supervision of students, strong communication skills, legal research, and leadership.
The position initially is for a full academic year, with consideration for renewal for additional academic years as an
ABA 405c compliant lawyering skills position. The preferred start date is July 1, 2026. The preferred start date is July 1, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Juris Doctorate
- Admission to the California Bar or willingness to apply
- Developed interest in the area of Health Justice and Interprofessional Education

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience supervising law students, law student interns, paralegals, or junior lawyers in clinical legal education or professional settings.
- Commitment to the vision, mission and core values of the law school; excellent interpersonal skills; technological competence.
- Federal law clerk experience or litigation experience, as well as a background in clinical legal education is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Hiring Range |
$115,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
