GENERAL PURPOSE

The Senior Designer, Interiors (Showrooms) is responsible for designing branded environments that deliver world class experiences for all MillerKnoll businesses and brands, including Herman Miller and Knoll. Helps to create the design strategy and creative development with the Design Director and Senior Managers and communicate those strategies to internal stakeholders. Leads multiple projects simultaneously from concept to completion with direction from creative leadership, that consider brand narrative, experience, interior design, exhibit design, messaging, branding, product, materials, lighting, and styling. Must cultivate a deep understanding of MillerKnoll brands, products and applications while bringing an awareness of contemporary and historical design, workplace trends, and sustainability principles. Collaborates with Marketing, Product, IT, and other internal teams, as well as external design resources as required by project.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads and contributes to the design and development of MillerKnoll Interiors projects, including contract showrooms, exhibitions, trade shows, workplace environments, and facilities.

  • Manages multiple design projects concurrently, balancing timelines, budgets, and priorities while communicating clearly with senior leadership and stakeholders.

  • Develops design documentation from concept through schematic design, design development to capture design intent, including drawings, diagrams, renderings, and material palettes for internal and client-facing presentations.

  • Defines and advances design narratives, spatial concepts, palettes, and environmental intentions-including color, materiality, lighting, and flow-to support project goals and brand alignment.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact with internal brand teams and external clients, advising on space planning, finish selection, and furnishings, and representing the design vision throughout.

  • Synthesizes workplace research, strategic insights, and the MillerKnoll perspective to inform design outcomes and guide consultative client conversations.

  • Integrates research findings with interior design expertise to develop environments that enhance productivity, collaboration, and brand storytelling.

  • Collaborates with product development and sales teams to remain current on furniture systems, market trends, and customer needs.

  • Oversees the development of custom elements such as millwork, sub-architectural components, and graphics, from design intent through fabrication and installation.

  • Prepares execution documentation in collaboration with Project Management, ensuring alignment on materials, schedule, budget, and technical specifications.

  • Maintains and contributes to shared design data, libraries, and resources across the Interiors team and broader MillerKnoll network.

  • Demonstrates fluency in digital design tools including Rhino, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape, and rapid prototyping software to develop and communicate design intent.

  • Leads internal design meetings and facilitates decision-making processes that uphold the firm's creative standards and project goals.

  • Analyzes and communicates project constraints and opportunities through critical design thinking and iterative studies.

  • Ensures project quality and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations in partnership with project leadership.

  • Supports continuous learning by researching new technologies, sustainable design practices, and emerging trends, contributing to the team's collective knowledge.

  • Mentors and manages junior designers, fostering skill development and ensuring design continuity across all project phases.

  • Represents the design team in client meetings and presentations, aligning project execution with client goals and design vision.

  • Other duties as assigned to meet business objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, art or a related discipline; OR equivalent combination of education and operational experience.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience in Architecture or Interior Design with progressively increasing responsibilities and complexity.

Skills and Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of the contract furniture industry and workplace design, including programming and workplace strategy metrics.

  • Demonstrated creative aesthetic aligned with the diverse brands within the MillerKnoll collective.

  • Experience designing with sustainable practices and an understanding of universal design, accessibility, and applicable building codes.

  • Ability to conceptualize and document MillerKnoll product solutions through 2D and 3D visualization techniques.

  • Strong understanding of architectural drawings and CAD software.

  • Highly proficient in design and visualization tools including AutoCAD, BIM platforms, SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and related software.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects from concept to completion, delivering on time, within budget, and to a high standard.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize team goals and manage client-specific challenges across distributed teams.

  • Financially literate with solid business acumen and strategic thinking.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills for engaging clients, internal teams, and firm leadership.

  • Skilled in client-facing engagements and stakeholder conversations, representing MillerKnoll professionally and confidently.

  • Passion for working collaboratively across disciplines in a team-driven environment.

  • Self-directed with the initiative to develop work plans, set goals, and execute results independently.

  • Assertive and proactive work style with adaptability in dynamic project contexts.

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time for site visits, installations, and team meetings.

A starting compensation range for this role is $90,000.00 - $115,000.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
