The post-award accountant will join a talented team of three post-award professionals to support researchers to drive discovery, inform practice and transform the arts, health and education. This team works closely with principal investigators, project managers, and professionals in the School of Education (SoE). The post-award accountant will act as a liaison between the Office of Research and Scholarship team and departments, central campus Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), and a diverse portfolio of customers and sponsors. The position will report to the post award research financial manager and support post-award functions including financial reporting and closeout for grants, contracts, and mixed portfolios. The position will also support approvals for sponsor-funded procurement, payroll, and subaward invoicing. The position helps implement a best-practices approach to advance innovative sponsored project needs that adhere to a complex regulatory environment relevant to SoE. The -post-award accountant will partner with other SoE Office of Research & Scholarship staff and collaborate with HR and the Office of Finance teams.

A successful candidate will demonstrate dependability and flexibility, interpersonal skills, strong multi-tasking abilities, initiative and good judgment. Key Job Responsibilities:

Develops and maintains post-award financial forecasts to support proactive budget management and strategic decision-making for sponsored projects

  • Develops and manages complex work unit budgets, analyzing funding sources, operational needs, budget trends, and financial commitments
  • Forecasts budget balances and recommends corrective action as needed
  • Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
  • Leads and executes the development, organization, preparation, and updating of complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
  • Facilitates trainings and provides financial guidance to management and staff
  • Monitors automated financial systems, develops, and documents controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity
  • Prepares and analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, and recommends solutions as needed
  • Performs complex accounting and auditing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports

Compensation:

Minimum: $74,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in sponsored projects and research administration with post-award responsibilities
  • Knowledge of or experience with funding agency terms and conditions; university policy and
  • procedures, state regulations, uniform guidance, cost principles and audit requirements for federal awards.
  • Knowledge of or experience with financial monitoring and project oversight (e.g., allowable costs, cost
  • transfers)
  • Experience providing post-award financial management for sponsored project portfolios including
  • multiple funding sources and/or complex funding awards (e.g., multi-component projects)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with complex electronic systems
  • Self-motivated with the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to think critically and make decisions independently
  • Ability to interpret regulations, policies, and procedures as they apply to a multitude of individual
  • situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders with a focus on service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with government/public sector research related accounting
  • Knowledge of or experience with foreign collaborations
