Compensation:

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is$110,500.00 to$184,100.00.

Position Details:

You'll be joining Grainger'sCustomer Identity & Access Management Engineering team, a group of passionate problem-solvers who build and secure the foundation of digital trust across the enterprise. The team partners closely with product, platform, and security stakeholders to enable frictionless yet secure access experiences for millions of users. We pride ourselves on being collaborative, innovative, and pragmatic-balancing security with business agility. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of Grainger's Customer IAM strategy, mentor peers, and make a direct impact on how our customers and employees securely interact with Grainger's digital ecosystem.

You will:
  • Design & Implement IAM Solutions: Build and integrate solutions using platforms such as Auth0, Okta, and other CIAM frameworks.
  • Authorization Services: Develop fine-grained authorization using policy frameworks like Open Policy Agent (OPA).
  • Security & Risk Mitigation: Protect enterprise assets by implementing secure authentication and authorization patterns, balancing user experience with strong controls.
  • Thought Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert, advising business and technology teams on IAM best practices and recommending innovative solutions.
  • Project & Initiative Ownership: Oversee IAM-related initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, on-time delivery, and effective adoption.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with security, engineering, and product stakeholders to build seamless IAM processes across the business.
  • AI & Analytics in IAM: Leverage AI/ML and data analytics to enhance access monitoring, detect anomalies, and prevent fraud or account takeovers.
  • Continuous Learning & Innovation: Stay ahead of regulatory, legal, and technology trends to ensure Grainger's IAM practices remain industry leading.
  • Generative AI Enablement: Apply Generative AI tools to streamline IAM operations, compliance automation, and user experience improvements.
  • Evaluation & Selection: Research and recommend new IAM products, frameworks, and standards to evolve the platform.
  • Incident Response & Support: Lead resolution of IAM incidents within SLAs while providing clear, business-friendly communication.
  • User Experience Enhancement: Continuously identify opportunities to simplify user access while strengthening security posture.
  • Operational Excellence: Perform administrative maintenance, documentation, and special IAM tasks as required.
You have:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related technical field with 8+ years of IT experience; or 10+ years without a degree.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with identity and federation services implementation and support.
  • Expertise in authentication/authorization protocols (SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OIDC).
  • Strong understanding of IAM security design principles and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with application development, REGO, and REST APIs.
  • Cloud experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience influencing cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Background in Agile and DevOps environments.
  • Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers, analysts, and interns.
