Yard Jockey (Class A)

The yard jockey is responsible for the timely movement of trailers to facilitate the needs of the warehouse in loading shipments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Driving Company Performance

• Stages trailers in a safe manner during numerous moves to load and unload trailers for scheduled deliveries.
• Starts refrigeration units; checks units periodically.
• Maneuvers trailers in and out of tight spaces.
• Pulls loaded trailers away from dock and secures trailer doors
• Coordinates loading schedules with warehouse supervisors.
• Assists warehouse dock workers with loading and unloading trailers.
• Operates powered industrial equipment such as forklifts, clamp trucks, etc. as necessary.
• Shuttles trucks to and from loading docks as necessary.
• Performs routine pre and post trip inspections to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Properly secure and strap heavy loads for travels
• Performs other duties as necessary and required.

• Demonstrates proficiency in Forklift operating.

• Walk-Around Inspection
• Backing and Docking

This position operates primarily outside and will require tolerance for extreme heat or cold as consistent with outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Employees may experience swings in work-related demands of this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The position often requires sitting for long periods of time in a truck.
