Position Summary:

As the Actuarial Risk Manager (or Senior Manager) in Individual Solutions, you will lead a team of actuarial professionals accountable for the development of Individual Life & Annuity risk management including risk reporting and analysis, mortality risk, our hedge programs, and reinsurance. You will play a key role in maturing risk management capabilities to inform management actions and drive business decisions. This leader will be expected to balance risk and reward to drive business outcomes, and build and maintain relationships with key Risk Management stakeholders in Individual Solutions, Securian Asset Management, and Finance, Risk, and Actuarial.

This position reports to the Actuarial Director for Finance and Risk in Individual Solutions and will lead a team of engaging and collaborative actuaries that seek to deliver high quality work and value to the organization while having fun and building meaningful relationships in the process. This role plays an important part in fulfilling our purpose to policyholders, driving business results, and developing talent.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and coach associates, creating an outstanding team.

  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Risk Team to broaden and enhance risk management capabilities across Individual Life and Annuity in support of business growth

  • Lead the analysis, monitoring and management of risks within Individual Life & Annuity, including risk metrics and reporting, mortality analysis and underwriting engagement, and tolerance thresholds.

  • Determine first line processes, monitoring and anlaysis, in partnership with the RCOE, to manage risks within our IS reinsurance programs.

  • Deliver risk management leadership and expertise to Individual Solutions sales practice and premium financing forums.

  • Effectivley collaborate with ALM and Hedging Consulting Director within matrix model to lead the Risk Team to deliver results for our hedge programs and asset strategies.

  • Collaborate with other PRF leaders to advance the development of IS Risk metrics and inforce management actions.

  • Partner with both IS and enterprise stakeholders to prioritize efforts and resources to deliver results, escalate issues, and resolve roadblocks.

  • Maintain strong relationships and effective communication with key partners across IS (product, distribution, compliance) and Enterprise Shared Services (SAM, ERM, EAS, RCOE, UW).

Qualifications:

  • ASA or FSA designation with at least 5 years of relevant experience (e.g. valuation, modeling, and pricing with life or annuity products).

  • Strong human-centered leadership skills, including the ability to create and maintain a positive culture, develop talent, and drive results through others.

  • Proven ability to develop, maintain, and leverage relationships with Individual Solutions and Shared Service teams

  • Understanding of the risk/reward mindset including the ability to advance the strategies and goals of Individual Solutions while helping IS and the enterprise manage risk

  • Ability to demonstrate courage and navigate ambiguity to deliver results through uncertainty

  • Effective project management and prioritization skills, including the ability to balance precision and resources/timelines within the bigger picture.

  • Communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively deliver feedback to elevate the performance of others and to explain concepts to both finance and non-finance personnel

  • Knowledge of Individual Life and Annuity products, markets, and distribution models

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$104,000.00 - $192,000.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
