Trust Advisor IV (Estate Settlement Specialist)
Comerica's estate settlement unit is team of knowledgeable and experienced professionals, whose goal is to oversee estate settlement matters for our clients who have named Comerica as fiduciary within their last will or trust. Our team strives to make the estate settlement process as seamless as possible for all concerned. As a Trust Advisor IV - Estate Settlement Specialist, you will be responsible for reviewing new estate settlement business opportunities and providing analysis and interpretation of complex estate planning documents in light of revenue, risk, compliance and regulatory factors. This role partners with Comerica's Business Development Officers, internal and external centers of influence, and our team of Trust and Estate Settlement Advisors to source, verify and maintain documentation critical to the administration of the estate or trust assets.

This role is also responsible for launching new estate account openings on our trust platform and monitoring progression through the opening process, maintaining records of new business or declined business opportunities and occasional administration of a small book of business for accounts that require minimal administrative duties or tasks.

Position Responsibilities:



  • Review documentation and ensure adequate and properly executed documents are received to open and fund accounts at Comerica.
  • Review legal documents such as deeds to real estate, titles to automobiles, titling of accounts, beneficiary designations, contractual agreements, buy-sell agreements, etc. and calculate appropriate value for tax reporting and distribution purposes.
  • Identify and/or confirm account powerholders, defined as entities who can fund and account or direct the distributions or investments of an account.
  • Investigate and evaluate tax returns and documents provided by family members, attorneys, certified public accountants (CPAs) and other sources to determine all assets reportable for a decedent's estate.
  • Update the trust account opening platform with all necessary information and oversight of review and approval process.
  • Interact with various internal service departments and act as a liaison with outside professionals to identify and collect relevant trust documents, beneficiary information and asset makeup.
  • Stays current on fiduciary/tax/legal changes that effect the administration of a client's estate plan or administration of accounts.


  • Personally take responsibility to manage risk and legal issues and move issues toward final resolution.



Additional Responsibilities



  • Communicates with internal clients (including Trust Specialists, Trust Advisors, Trust Client Assistants, Investment Strategists, Tax Officers, Wealth Management Risk, and upper management) regarding estate settlement account opening issues/questions.



Position Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • 8 years of experience serving as an account administrator in a specific area of expertise to include trust administration, investments or insurance in a client service capacity
  • 6 years of business development experience in trust administration, investments or insurance

Work Best Category: Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday Salary: To Be Determined Based on Individual Experience
