Synergy is hiring for a Linux System Administrator with a DevSecOps mindset to work on an agile team supporting developers working on various agile projects at the USDA. As a Linux System Administrator, you will bring experience supporting and deploying applications within a highly secure environment. The project expectation is for a highly secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable system. There will be autonomy to research, design, implement and launch new tools and services that enable the development team to rapidly deploy new features to Linux virtual machines without sacrificing up time.
Description
  • This role requires being comfortable working within agile Scrum and Kanban projects
  • Assist with application and infrastructure management, inventory, installations, configurations, and connectivity
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop deployment and maintenance automation for existing and new services
  • Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot problems related to security, networking, storage, and servers
  • Prepare presentations, reports, research, and other project deliverables
Skills, Qualifications and Certifications of Best Candidates:
  • Preferred bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related experience
  • Hands on experience with using VMWare Workstation (v15+)
  • Comfortable with Linux cmd line; dnf, rpm, zip, tar, curl, wget.
  • Develop and maintain configuration management scripts with Ansible.
  • Deploy and support Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery systems.
  • Identify and tactfully communicate the root cause of application and networking issues
  • Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team of engineers to resolve issues related to stability, performance, or vulnerabilities.
  • Installing databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL
  • Networking/DNS/Firewalls.
  • Security minded.
  • Fully embrace DevSecOps culture.
  • Prioritize work and close out tickets in a timely manner.
  • Able to work at a high level independently.
  • Demonstrates high initiative and ownership of issues.
  • Able to follow internal procedures and reliably perform real-time ticket documentation.
  • Must be able to work through tough situations and solve challenging problems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Government or large organization experience.
Preferred Experience
  • Jira Service Management and Confluence.
  • Cloud based services (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure )
  • App monitoring: Tanium, Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection.
  • Familiarity with deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting J2EE apps.

  • Ability to attain Federal Government Position of Trust

Compensation for roles at Synergy varies depending on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to the requirements of the role; education and certifications; knowledge, training, skills and abilities; level of experience; geographic location; and alignment with market data, law, and other business and organizational needs.As required by local law, the posted pay range represents the lowest to the highest pay that Synergy believes in good faith it might pay for this particular job, depending on the circumstances. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00.

Essential Job Function Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position are critical in evaluating the qualifications and abilities of an applicant or employee.
