Job Description Summary:
The Lab Manager, Pharmacology and Physiology provides leadership and direct management to a team of laboratory professionals responsible for a broad range of complex laboratory and research related tasks. This position monitors and evaluates staff performance in productivity, skill level, adherence to protocols, and safety. This role also trains and directs employees and students in lab techniques, use of equipment, study protocols, and safety. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the procurement and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment, maintaining an inventory of samples processed in the facility, and monitoring the cost-effectiveness of existing and planned protocols. This position typically manages laboratory budget and resources. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs.

Duties:

  • Provide leadership and direct management to a team conducting complex laboratory and research tasks related to opioid-induced respiratory depression.
  • Coordinate and assess team member performance in:

    • Productivity
    • Skill level
    • Adherence to protocols
    • Safety compliance



  • Train and supervise employees and students in:

    • Laboratory techniques
    • Equipment usage
    • Study protocols
    • Safety procedures


  • Oversee procurement of laboratory supplies, including P-card purchases.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor and improve the efficiency of experimental protocols.
  • Manage laboratory budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) on:

    • Hiring decisions
    • Training and mentoring staff



Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 6 years of relevant professional experience or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Hiring Range $58,258.38 - $93,025.48
