Job Description: The Senior R&D Welder is responsible for application development to support R&D Filler Metals activities. This role involves writing reports on testing and results, providing guidance in hardfacing and joining of various steels, and performing other duties to support product development and business growth opportunities. Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and execute weld programs, including preparing test plates using oxyfuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, grinding, and GMAW/FCAW welding.
- Weld test plates using automatic and semiautomatic welding equipment, prepare welds for testing, and submit plates to the lab for analysis.
- Provide expert guidance in hardfacing and joining of carbon, low alloy, and stainless steel.
- Visit customers as needed to support sales efforts and troubleshoot issues. Travel commitment is expected to be 15-20% of available time.
- Perform metallographic preparation of samples and conduct hardness, wear, and other required tests.
- Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to fabricate prototypes, test coupons, and experimental components.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and cleanliness in the welding area.
- Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or associate degree in welding or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional welding experience.
- AWS (American Welding Society) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and welding symbols.
- Strong understanding of welding codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in various positions (e.g., standing, crouching, overhead) for extended periods.
- Ability to work in environments that may include heat, noise, and exposure to fumes (PPE provided).
