Heavy Equipment Operator III - Utilities: $23.09 to $25.40



Heavy Equipment Operator II - Utilities: $22.05 to $24.26



Heavy Equipment Operator I - Utilities: $20.23 to $22.25



Selections for current vacancies will be based upon the candidate's highest level of education/experience/licensing. Please see the requirements listed below.



Positions are available in the North, Central, and South areas of the County. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes standby, overtime, and holidays as needed. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment and may perform related manual labor. Employee may rotate among various pieces of equipment or may be permanently assigned to a specific piece of equipment.



REQUIREMENTS:



FOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY: Must complete within nine (9) months of employment, all of the classes for the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees PLUS must complete within twenty-four (24) months of employment, all of the classes for all three (3) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on each phase examination.



Heavy Equipment Operator III: Three (3) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment; OR two (2) years of experience as a Brevard County Heavy Equipment Operator II PLUS successful completion of all three (3) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and received a passing score on each phase examination PLUS a current annual performance evaluation score of 3.5 or greater and must be able to achieve departmental standards for operating equipment. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, OR obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial driver's license with a tanker endorsement and maintain both the said license and the endorsement during the term of employment. Must be able to pass a verbal proficiency test and effectively demonstrate the ability to safely operate the Excavator PLUS the Dump Truck with Trailer PLUS one (1) OR more of the following types of heavy equipment: Fuel Truck, Compactor, Backhoe, Loader, Vacuum Truck, Roller, End Loader, and/or Mowing Tractor. Must possess a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Basic Flagger OR higher certification and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call-out duties on a rotational basis.



Heavy Equipment Operator II: Two (2) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment; OR One (1) year of experience as a Brevard County Heavy Equipment Operator I PLUS successful completion of all of the classes for any two (2) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and received a passing score on each phase examination PLUS a current annual performance evaluation score of 3.5 or greater. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, OR obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. A tanker endorsement is preferred. Heavy Equipment Operator I: One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment; OR six (6) months of on-the-job training within the County in the operation of minor heavy equipment and must be able to achieve departmental standards for operating the equipment; OR successful completion of a six (6) month heavy equipment operator training program from an accredited school. Successful completion of coursework in heavy equipment operation at an accredited post-secondary school may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of one (1) year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] : I year of experience; 120 class hours : I month of experience). Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, OR obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. A tanker endorsement is preferred. Must be able to pass a verbal proficiency test and effectively demonstrate the ability to safely operate one (1) of the following types of minor heavy equipment: Vacuum Truck, Fuel Truck, Compactor, Backhoe, Loader, Excavator, Roller, Dump Truck with Trailer, End Loader, and/or Mowing Tractor. Must possess OR obtain within six (6) months of employment, a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Basic Flagger OR higher certification and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment. Must satisfactorily complete all of the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees within nine (9) months of employment. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call-out duties on a rotational basis.
