Information Technology / Operations Technology (IT/OT) professionals sculpt the technological framework of the organization through the creation and management of scalable and secure information systems. Charged with the development and deployment of solutions, they analyze short- and long-term requirements to enhance system functionality and efficiency. They design and refine software applications, ensuring integration with existing architectural paradigms while also developing network systems and infrastructure to support business needs. IT/OT personnel manage the organization's IT/OT landscape, guaranteeing the reliable operation of servers, databases, and other components of the technology ecosystem. By maintaining a secure and robust IT/OT infrastructure, they uphold the integrity and confidentiality of data while facilitating connectivity and accessibility. Information Technology / Operations Technology personnel continually adapt to technological advancements, ensuring the organization stays at the forefront of emerging IT/OT trends and is well-equipped to meet future challenges while maintaining secure and stable operations.

Discipline Description

Computer Systems Administrators design, develop, implement, and oversee information technology (IT), including hardware, software, and networks. They implement short- and long-term IT solutions that meet the needs of the organization. They install, configure, administer, upgrade, and maintain security for IT hardware, software, and network infrastructure.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

A Senior Computer Systems Administrator's duties include managing and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance and security; administer and support virtualization technologies such as VMware; implementing cybersecurity frameworks and performing regular vulnerability assessments; develop scripts in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation; configure and manage enterprise firewalls, and lead IT projects, including planning and resource allocation. Communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide mentorship to junior team members. They also perform upgrades, implement disaster recovery plans, and document system processes for efficient operations.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical field.
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered
* 5+ years experience in IT Systems Engineering, IT System Administration, or related roles.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
* Strong experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V or KVM).
* Advances knowledge of Windows and Linux server administration.

We'd Also Like to See

* Experience with Containerization and Orchestration technologies (Docker, Podman, K8S, OpenShift)
* Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLAN, DHCP, SDN)
* Scripting abilities with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar.
* Experience with enterprise firewall configuration and management (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, pfSense or similar).
* Knowledge of firewall ACLs, NAT policies, and best practices.
* Understanding of Cybersecurity frameworks including NIST 800-53, DISA, CIS, RMF and ATO processes.
* Experience implementing and maintaining security hardening standards and baselines.
* Experience with compliance and vulnerability scanning tools and management processes (Tenable, ACAS, SCAP or similar).
* Experience with project management, including planning, resource allocation, and coordination.
* Experience in a senior role within a team is advantageous.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
* Problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot complex technical issues efficiently.
* Industry Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, MSCE, VCP, RHSA are a plus.
* Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure, particularly during live events or critical situations.
* Ability to work independently and as a team on projects and tasks to support site mission.
* Leadership qualities to mentor junior staff members and provide guidance on projects.
* Adaptability to keep pace with evolving technologies and industry trends.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
