Job Summary

The incumbent in this position has a separate appointment as a Volunteer Clinical Faculty. This separate appointment allows the staff physician to supervise and interact with medical students, housestaff and fellows in an ancillary teaching capacity. At the diplomate level, employees must meet the following: The Diplomate classes are used when incumbents possess a valid certificate issued by an American Medical Specialty Board as a specialist in one of the fields of medicine and are required to use the specialty in the work assigned.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • ABR Certification in therapeutic medical physics, diagnostic medical physics, or nuclear medical physics.
  • PhD in Medical Clinical Physics
  • Previous experience in an academic setting supporting radiation oncology services.
  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Skills to analyze needs, establishing priorities, and provide appropriate medical care and preventive medicine services to the Campus community.
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Computer and keyboarding skills to use Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software program.
  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check.
  • Meets the credentialing and privileging standards for UCDH medical staff.
  • Close Visual Acuity (e.g., viewing a computer screen; using measurement devices) - Constantly, Color Visual Acuity - constantly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Works at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledge of University and campus policies and procedures preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills in large and small group settings.

Department Overview

The Department of Radiation Oncology serves the broader community by contributing to the understanding of health and disease through our diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, imaging and imaging technology-related clinical and basic science research.

The department's missions focus on education, imaging-related research, and achieving the professional goals of our students, faculty and staff. Departmental educational programs are predominately directed towards the training of residents, medical students, and fellows as well as continued educational achievement of our faculty and staff, presenting at regional and national courses in postgraduate medical education.

Department Specific Job Scope

The applicant will provide clinical coverage in physics. Must have clinical expertise in all aspects of medical clinical physics; Participate in or facilitate basic and/or clinical investigation; and have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment. All areas of responsibilities will relate to the delivery of clinical care that is timely, appropriate and of the highest quality.
