Salary/Compensation Statement: |
- Hourly wage reflects an approximate annual salary of $50,570 - $74,162.
- New employees may not be placed on the salary schedule higher than any current employee in this classification with the same or greater number of years' relevant experience.

- Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Required Education: |
Two (2) years of post-secondary education with course work in psychology, sociology, ethnic studies, education, human services, or a related field.

Position Purpose: |
The Academic Advisor 2 - Lead has primary responsibility for coordinating with outside regulatory, educational or social service agencies. Provides academic advising services by providing students with information about classes, programming, majors and careers in an assigned academic area. Contributes to other academic advising-related activities that facilitate students successfully reaching their academic goals. |
Essential Functions: |
Essential Functions
- Participates with admissions director, faculty, and/or deans from four-year institutions to determine and document transferability of College courses.
- Develops and maintains a list of Lane courses meeting four-year institutions requirements.
- Participates in obtaining written approval from four-year schools in the state and private systems to accept Lane courses that satisfy specific admissions and major requirements.
- Coordinates the updating and distribution of curriculum and admissions information used by advisors.
- Ensures the college is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines affecting areas of specialization (VA, ICE, LEAP, GED, Financial Aid, etc).
- Provides academic advising to students; helps students to negotiate transfer of credits to other educational institutions; meets with students and assists them with developing an academic plan; guides students in selecting courses that fit their academic goals.
- Writes, edits, and updates manuals of Policies & Procedures and/or program materials and handouts on new or changed procedures.
- Interprets test results to students and faculty, including results of item-analysis.
- Maintains academic advising notes and databases to ensure that all records and reports are confidential, accurate, and complete.
- Provides general information to students and potential students regarding college policies and procedures, degree and program requirements, and resources available.
- Collaborates in the Academic Advising Department's effort to collect and analyze data related to academic advising in order to regularly assess and refine service delivery.
- Work closely with Lane instructional division staff when negotiating approval of new Lane courses to satisfy the various requirements at four-year schools.
- Advises students with information about the college programs and services; initial entry and enrollment concerns; curricular scheduling; following published or individual academic plans for professional-technical and four-year college transfer programs.
- Interpret required entrance test scores and other placement materials, and advise suitable coursework to facilitate academic success and enhance students' educational experiences.
- Assists in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations.
- Acts as a liaison, resource person, and advocate for diverse student populations; refers students who are concerned with career choice, developmental or mental health issues to counselors.
- Develops and maintains student relationships that encourage ongoing academic advising interactions over time.
- Presents new student academic advising group sessions and program orientations.
- Works collaboratively as a team member on special projects designed to improve the distribution and utilization of information.
- Keeps current of general education course requirements for Oregon Public University System institutions and private institutions of local student interests.
- Attend Academic Advising Department retreats, in-services, trainings, and weekly meetings; actively and positively participate on committees and task forces.
- Recommend possible course substitutions to the designated department contact person based on evaluation of transcripts.
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement: |
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Director of Academic Advising. Work is performed with considerable independence using judgment concerning applicability and interpretation of laws and regulations. Work is reviewed for the accuracy of advice provided to students. |
Physical Demands/Working Environment: |
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. This position may work with individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely. |
