If so, the City of Carlsbad Library & Cultural Arts Department invites you to apply for the position of Library Page (Part-Time). The scheduled work hours for Library Pages will vary and may be distributed over all hours that the Carlsbad Libraries are open, including evenings and weekends. In addition, Pages may be scheduled work up to two hours before the library opens. About the Library The Library & Cultural Arts Department of the City of Carlsbad provides educational, informational, and cultural services for the community, and contributes to a high quality of life by supporting lifelong learning, the pursuit of knowledge, and an environment conducive to community gathering. The Library & Cultural Arts Department operates three public facilities: the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane, the Georgina Cole Library, and the Library Learning Center. The department also includes the Cultural Arts division which presents public art throughout the community. The Carlsbad City Library is also home to the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, George and Patricia Gowland Meeting Room and the Cannon Art Gallery which support a variety of visual and performing arts programs, arts education and cultural arts services. Currently, the only open Page positions are at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane.

Key Responsibilities

- Sort, process and move donated books and other materials in boxes weighing up to 40 lbs
- Discard and process library materials that are leaving the collection
- Scan and package discarded library materials and donations for shipment
- Shelve, sort and shift library materials
- Conduct shelf searches and process holds
- Empty book drops and donation bins
- Assist patrons in the use of self-service technologies
- Transport books and other materials throughout the building
- Other duties as assigned

Experience & Education
-
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify. Physical Requirements:
- Need to be able to operate equipment, including, but not limited to, some that may require rapid adjustments such as computer keyboards and terminals, printers and photocopiers
- Must be able to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing skilled movements such as rapid keyboard use
- Need to be able to perform frequent downward or upward flexion or turning of the neck, fine finger dexterity and grasp to manipulate the keyboard, telephone, writing instruments, papers, books, manuals and reports
- Job entails standing, bending, stooping, climbing, reaching at and above shoulder level and twisting at the waist
- On a frequent basis, the incumbent must be able to squat or kneel
- Must be able to safely carry up to 40 pounds, and
- Must be able to safely pull and push book carts weighing at least 60 pounds
- This position may require exposure to the outdoors
