Job Requirements

The Software Engineer III leads the development, maintenance, and enhancement of complex software systems that solve customer and user problems. This role brings deep expertise across software languages, paradigms, frameworks, and technologies to effectively contribute to a wide array of projects. Software Engineer IIIs excel at digesting complex tasks and business requirements, aligning teams around implementation, and ensuring smooth delivery of maintainable systems by establishing effective processes.

The Impact You Will Create:

The Total ITRegs project supports a modernization initiative focused on rebuilding a high-profile federal system that manages public participation in government processes. The work involves decommissioning legacy components, designing and deploying a modern cloud-based architecture, improving scalability and interoperability through APIs and open standards, and supporting the development of new features. The team will work closely with stakeholders to ensure secure, flexible, and user-friendly solutions using agile delivery practices, with a strong emphasis on architecture, DevOps, testing, and compliance.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:

  • Synthesize business requirements and objectives to drive development solutions.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to plan and build features.
  • Coach and mentor others to develop technical and professional skills.
  • Lead all phases of the development lifecycle, from task creation through production deployment.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable software solutions aligned with project needs.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Establish technical processes that enable testable, maintainable software with minimal technical debt.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in application and infrastructure code.
  • Develop and implement plans for continuous improvement and evolution of software systems.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend improvements to technology strategies beyond the scope of a single project.
  • Review code from other developers and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of products and workflows within the supported businesses.

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Must have at least 7 years of experience
  • Expert in web-development including front-end (browser) and back-end (server) including UI components, client-server integrations, APIs, and data persistence.
  • Ability to discuss abstract software development concepts like single-responsibility, cohesion, data immutability, and other paradigm appropriate design patterns.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new systems and technology quickly.
  • Expert in at least one programming language like Node.js, Python, Go, Java 8+, Ruby, etc.
  • Proficient with the industry-leading framework(s) for the programming language expertise (Express.js, Gatsby.js, Django, Flasks, Rails, Spring.io, etc).
  • Proficient with important libraries and technologies in the ecosystem of programming language expertise.
  • Proficient with HTML, Javascript and ability to quickly translate designs into CSS implementations.
  • Proficient with at least one front-end technology like React, Angular, Vue, Ember, Backbone, Svelte.
  • Proficient with building applications in containerized development environments.
  • Expert in with advanced git commands like rebasing, squashing, and cherry-picking.
  • Ability to assist other engineers with source code management in git.
  • Ability to discuss technical tasks and team process topics with team members.
  • Basic understanding of container orchestration technologies like Amazon ECS and Kubernetes.
  • Basic understanding of "serverless" concepts and frameworks like Serverless.com and AWS Lambda.
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms like AWS.
  • Basic understanding of software infrastructure including network, compute, and data storage resources.
  • Basic understanding of securing systems on the application, network, and infrastructure layers.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, and build relationships and influence others.
  • Experience working with government or large industry clients.
  • Holds a current AWS Certified Developer Associate, Solutions Architecture Associate, or Solutions Architect Professional or similar certification in another cloud platform.
  • Holds a current Certified Scrum Master certification.
  • Holds a current CompTIA Security+ certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $102,540

Salary Midpoint: $133,302

Maximum Salary: $164,064

Hiring Range: $102,540 - $143,359
