Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. Please note, the Midwife will work 75 hours in a 2 week pay cycle. These hours will be comprised of 12, 8 and 4 hr shifts.

The Bellevue Midwifery Service is a public health Midwifery practice caring for a diverse patient population which is largely immigrant and low income with the majority of patients on Medicaid. Midwives work under the direction of the Midwifery Service Director and the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bellevue Hospital Center and the NYU Langone SOM Affiliation. The practice provides full-scope, independent midwifery care, with a focus on obstetrical care. A successful Midwife in this role will provide compassionate care in collaboration with the whole team, specifically the other midwifery team members but also with our MD, MFM, and Resident colleagues. The successful Midwife will utilize an evidence-based approach in order to provide high-quality public health midwifery care. As a public health institution, it is our mission to provide care to all Bellevue patients which is sensitive to the diversity and lived experience of our patient population. Adapting to shared clinical systems to assure clinical continuity in the setting of a group practice would be a hallmark of success in our setting. The Bellevue Midwifery Service is dedicated to providing continuity midwifery care for our patients through a shared philosophy and approach to care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent midwifery care in accordance with the standards of practice for NYS midwifery licensure, national standards for midwifery practice, reproductive and perinatal healthcare practice and institutional guidelines
  • Provide independent management of reproductive healthcare focusing on pregnancy and the postpartum period as well as family planning, preconception, and gynecologic care as part of a shared practice model
  • Participate in a shared practice model within a system that includes appropriate consultation, collaboration, referral, and transfer
  • Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations, obtain pertinent patient medical information, records medical information in electronic medical record format and provides accurate and sensitive patient counseling and follow-up care
  • Independent management of midwifery patients on the Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Units including triage, admission, labor and delivery management, postpartum rounds, and discharge planning
  • Work closely with all members of the Ob/Gyn Department including residents, attendings and the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division to provide comprehensive and equitable care for the patients of the Department of Ob/Gyn at Bellevue Hospital
  • Clinical care is provided in both the out-patient and in-patient setting with the expectation that all members of the team will share equally in coverage across all settings
  • Expectations include night, weekend, and holiday coverage
  • Participate in clinical education of midwifery students, medical students, and residents
  • Maintain National and State certifications and licensure
  • Maintain institutional credentials and trainings according to Departmental guidelines and expectations
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have New York State Midwifery Licensure
Will consider new graduates as well as experienced candidates.

Required Licenses: Midwifery Certification-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:

2-3 years of clinical experience.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $125,730.84 - $155,000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
