Position Description:

TheDepartment of Psychological and Brain Sciencesat the University of Iowa invites applications from innovative and visionary psychological scientists and neuroscientists who are committed to the research, mentoring, and teaching missions of our department. The successful applicant will have a productive, visible, and well-funded research program and a clear vision for achieving even greater future success. We are also interested in candidates who will build interdisciplinary connections with theIowa Neuroscience Instituteor other entities across campus. The position is at the rank of associate or full professor and is open to candidates using human experimental, theoretical, clinical, or computational approaches to address problems in any area within the field. This position includes a generous startup package and a named chair or professorship. Review of applications begins Monday, September 29, 2025, and continues on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The position begins as early as August 2026.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with basic and clinical scientists working in such areas as learning and plasticity, neural circuits, development, perception and cognition, cognitive control, sleep, addiction, and brain disorders. Our faculty contribute actively to the university's large and vibrant neuroscience community that includes theIowa Neuroscience Institute, an NIH supportedInterdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience, a popular undergraduate major in neuroscience, and the NIH-fundediDream postbaccalaureate program. TheBehavioral-Biomedical Interface Training Program, also supported by NIH, creates unique opportunities for integrative and cross-disciplinary research. The DeLTA Center brings together researchers interested in all aspects of learning and development. There is also a growing community ofcomputational scientistsacross campus.

There are extensive opportunities for collaboration with researchers in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Engineering, the College of Education, and the College of Public Health. Department faculty have ongoing collaborations with colleagues in such departments as Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Radiology, Biology, Computer Science, Health and Human Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Public Health. The university also supports a variety of institutes, centers, and facilities, including theInstitute for Clinical and Translational Science, theMagnetic Resonance Research Facility(which houses research-dedicated 3T and 7T scanners), theCenter for Neurodegeneration, theCentral Microscopy Research Facility, theHolden Comprehensive Cancer Center, theInjury Prevention Research Center, and theIowa Institute of Human Genetics.
