Job Description

Aircraft Worker Candidate Pool

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Universityis building a pool of qualified candidates for current and future opportunities as Aircraft Workers (AWs). This entry-level program offers aspiring aviation maintenance professionals-especially those with mechanical experience in automotive, marine, military, or industrial trades-a pathway to enter and grow within the aviation industry.

AWs are paired with certificated Aircraft & Powerplant Maintenance Technicians in a helper/assistant role, gaining skills and hands-on experience while contributing to Embry-Riddle's aircraft maintenance operations. As AWs gain proficiency, they progress through four defined levels (A1-A4), each with increasing responsibility, while remaining under the direct supervision of both their assigned mentor A&P and the crew shift lead.

  • Work performed by AWs is conducted under the oversight of a certificated A&P mentor and crew shift lead.
  • Lower-level AWs focus on support tasks such as cleaning, removing, preparing, and opening panels.
  • Higher-level AWs are trained for basic maintenance tasks but remain under supervision.
  • Top-level AWs perform at the functional equivalent of an entry-level A&P mechanic, but do not have return-to-service or inspection release authority.

  • Sufficient work hours and documented training to qualify for the FAA General Test for the A&P license
