Tank Shop Lead

Scope of Position:

This highly motivated individual, as part of the ASME Tank Shop, will be responsible for leading daily operations, guiding and training personnel in building tanks and assembled components used in the manufacturing process. This role plays a critical part in maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency in the fabrication of pressure vessels and tanks. This individual will also be responsible for leading in a manner consistent with Watt's Core values.

This position is responsible for the oversight ofTank Welders, Fitters, and Fabricators.
This position reports to the Value Stream Supervisor. This role is onsite and is based in Fort Worth, Texas.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the ASME tank shop team to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Oversee welding, fitting, and fabrication of ASME-certified pressure vessels and tanks.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ASME code requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Provides daily direction to employees.
  • Attends a variety of meetings in support of operations.
  • Assists in optimizing efficiency by ensuring parts and tools are readily available and that best workflow of projects is followed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams to resolve production issues.
  • Gathers parts for projects.
  • Works on production.
  • Pulls parts listed on the bill of material (BOM) and checks against blueprints and work orders.
  • Checks all tools and performs preventative maintenance.
  • Checks overhead crane to insure it is functioning properly.
  • Utilizes crane and/or forklift for material handling.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings and training.
  • Reviews the inspection of parts produced to ensure quality standards are followed.
  • Organizes and cleans work area.
  • Provides guidance, hands on training, and answers questions for colleagues with less experience.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned Value Stream Supervisor or Company management.
  • Responsibility directly tied to Watts Value (Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, Transparency)
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 5%

Required Qualifications

  • High School or Equivalent (in absence of degree, may consider relevant work experience)
  • 5+ years' experience in a manufacturing/welding environment
  • Basic knowledge of welding and metal fabrication processes
  • Proficiency in welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) and reading blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS or ASME welding certification.
  • Technical training in welding, fabrication, or pressure vessel manufacturing.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
  • A current forklift license or the ability to obtain a license.
  • Aptitude to read blueprints
  • Ability to follow instruction
  • Good communication skills

Working Conditions:

While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site in a manufacturing facility. You will be required to work at the Company's Fort Worth location in Fort Worth, TX. Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

Physical Requirements: Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to physically move around manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to read documents and communicate clearly with management and coworkers.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
  • Ability to drive a forklift
  • Ability to work around equipment and machinery
  • Ability to utilize protective equipment as needed.
