In collaboration with the Executive Vice President & Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), the Vice President in the Office of the Chief Clinical Officer (VP-CCO) will coordinate and integrate the strategy, operations, revenue, services, and evaluation of six Centers of Excellence (Hospital-Based Specialties, Surgical Care, Neuroscience & Behavioral Medicine, Heart and Lung, Goldberg Community Pediatric Health and Cancer and Blood Disorders) as well as the Children's National Rehabilitation and Specialized Care (CNRSC) and Telehealth Services. The VP-CCO will report to the CCO and will provide administrative and business leadership across all Centers of Excellence (COEs) under the CCO's purview. Oversight of business development and partner relationships for the six Centers will be accomplished through collaboration with the Chief Strategy Officer and aligned with the CEO's vision and strategic plan. The VP-CCO must demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration skills, and drive accountability at both the individual and team levels. They will foster a motivating, performance-driven environment and integrate the operations of the COEs within the CCO portfolio with other areas of the CNH enterprise. A proven track record of establishing partnerships and building teams with other parties is an essential attribute of the successful candidate.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Master's Degree Master's Degree is required (Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Administration or another related field). Juris Doctorate (J.D.) preferred Or Medical Doctor (M.D.) preferred Minimum Experience: 13 years. At least 13-18 years of progressive healthcare related experience including management of budgets. Minimum of 10 years supervisory/management experience in health-related entity. Must have strong negotiation skill set and evidence of experience with contracts in a healthcare or in a government agency related to healthcare. Required License n/a Required Certification- Demonstrated leadership, expertise in the areas of specialty with required certifications and licenses as applicable. Licensure as a health care provider with 20 percent clinical time may be desirable. Preferred Required Skills/Knowledge
The VP-CCO must possess strong contract management and negotiation skills, along with demonstrated leadership and management experience. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills are essential, as is a proven ability to communicate effectively across divisions, departments, and with clinical personnel. The VP-CCO will have expertise in developing comprehensive business plans for new or expanded physician practices, including detailed financial modeling that evaluates patient volume projections and potential impacts on regional referral patterns. The individual must be capable of presenting complex business proposals clearly and persuasively to executive leadership. This role will serve as a strategic advisor to the CCO, supporting executive oversight of the COEs and contributing to the execution of the organization's strategic initiatives. The VP-CCO will play a key role in advancing regional, national, and global outreach efforts, measuring return on investment (ROI), and supporting business development aligned with institutional goals. The VP-CCO will manage contract processes across the six Centers, including negotiation and re-negotiation of agreements related to COE operations. The ideal candidate will bring successful executive-level leadership experience within a regional tertiary medical center-preferably in a pediatric health care setting-and demonstrate a track record of involvement in large-scale facility development projects.
Functional Accountabilities
VP-CCO will provide administrative and business leadership for 6 COEs, CNRSC and Telemedicine within the Office of the CCO. * Oversight of Physician and professional growth and relationship, e.g., productivity, inpatient, out-patient clinics, and expansion of physician practices. * Strategy and Business Development of 6 COEs. Contract management and negotiation for all COEs, CNRSC and Telemedicine. Locally, Regionally, and Globally. Financial management and oversight of CCO Office, e.g., budget, SPF, Capital, Staffing and financial modeling. Vision and Strategy - P lan, implement, direct, and evaluate CCO and Centers' departments/divisions at both strategic and operational levels to ensure alignment with CNH's mission, vision, and values. Monitor departmental and divisional processes and identify opportunities for operational improvement. * Develop and execute a communication strategy, including tools, to ensure effective dissemination of all CCO and Centers' programs and contractual relationships to CNH management and staff. Organizational Relationships/Leadership In collaboration with the CCO and COE leadership, assess and monitor organizational staffing needs and align departmental structures to meet those needs effectively and efficiently. * Help define, establish, and apply appropriate performance and quality metrics for departments/divisions and individual team members. Serve as a leader of others - form a top-performing team with balanced capabilities, establish mission, values, and norms, and hold team members accountable individually and collectively for results. Build and maintain professional relationships to create a network of individuals with aligned goals and shared interests. Plan, implement, direct, and evaluate the assigned areas on a strategic and operational level to ensure the organization's move to Top Tier and Employer of Choice. Translate organizational strategies into functional business development objectives and operational goals. Information Technology Understand and champion the use of administrative and clinical information technology and decision-support tools to drive process and performance improvement. Actively support the utilization and continuous enhancement of information management capabilities. Ensure the availability and integrity of data to support senior leadership decision-making. Budget and Financial Management Oversee, in collaboration with the Executive Director of the CCO, the development and monitoring of CCO and Centers' operating and capital budgets. Develop and implement recommendations to help departments meet budgetary goals. Consult subordinate managers and incorporate their input into strategies to achieve budget targets. Continuously monitor budgets, fiscal performance, and resource allocation to minimize variances. Take appropriate corrective actions in response to negative financial trends. Participate in professional fee billing operations for all billable providers within the physician enterprise. CCO COEs Service Operations Lead the development of new business opportunities and oversee regional service acquisition decisions across all COEs; deliver executive-level presentations on business proposals. Collaborate with Marketing on communication strategies and marketing plans to support. Develop and implement strategic plans to drive patient volume growth. Oversee financial management across COEs, including budgeting, salary and non-salary expenses, and capital investments. Ensure detailed fiscal and operational reporting, and that financial/operational targets are achieved. Oversee the administration of physician employment contracts, compensation, and incentives in coordination with Legal Services, the Medical Staff Office, Human Resources, and relevant governance committees. Support the CCO in executing short- and long-term strategic goals for regional, national, and global outreach initiatives; monitor and measure the ROI of COE outreach programs; and manage contracting efforts across the organization in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Office of the CCO. Oversee all contracting functions in support of COE and CCO leadership.
