Quality Engineer III

Farr West, UT

Job Summary:

Assists the Quality Manager in maintaining Company Quality System, identify and implement job requirements and preparing any quality related planning.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in maintenance of Quality Manuals
  • Review customer contract requirements and prepare necessary quality planning (inspection plans, procedures, etc.)
  • Perform internal and external audits.
  • Assist in maintenance of Approved Vendor List
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and external auditors.
  • Compile procedures and certifications for customer approval
  • Assist quality Manager in preparing and maintaining welding procedures, procedure qualification records and welder performance qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with fabrication techniques and equipment.
  • Inspection and NDE processes.
  • Working knowledge of welding and associated quality records.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of NQA-1, NAVSEA, NADCAP, ASME, AS9100 quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, AWS & MIL.
  • Assist and working knowledge of quality records in compliance with NAVSEA, NQA-1, AS9100 etc.
  • Ability to lead teams in problem solving activities and procedure development.
  • Working knowledge of Discus or other ballooning software to create Inspection Plans.
  • Work well within a Team environment.
  • Must possess good writing and communication skills.

Minimum Requirements:

Four-year degree in a technical field and four years of quality engineering related experience in a fabrication and machining environment such as working with codes, standards and specifications, auditing, SPC, preparing procedures and other quality related documents, inspection, NDE.

(8 years of quality engineering experience may be considered in lieu of degree)

Essential Mental Functions:

Must be proactive and be able to evaluate quality conditions. Must be able to work diplomatically with employees and customers.

Essential Physical Functions:

Must be able to work in a fabrication and machine shop environment and be able to climb on parts and machinery to perform inspections and evaluate their conditions.

Safety Requirements:

  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and employer's safety policies and must be willing to report safety violations, potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Equipment Used (but not limited to):

Desk top PC (Must be proficient with a PC using database, spreadsheet, and word-processing software such as Access, Excel, and Word.) Precision dimensional inspection equipment.

Availability:

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
  • Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Travel:

Approximately 10% travel. Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Working Conditions:

Primarily in office setting with some involvement in typical fabrication/machine shop surroundings.
