Construction Inspector

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Construction Inspector to support the successful execution of complex construction and renovation projects at LAFB and its auxiliary sites. This role is critical in ensuring contractor compliance with design specifications, applicable codes, and federal standards for a variety of facility types, including administrative buildings, hospitals, industrial facilities, and utility systems under the T-7A Beddown program.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Construction Inspector Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable building codes, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and 32-series Civil Engineer Air Force Instructions (AFIs).
  • Monitor contractor work to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, materials, and workmanship standards.
  • Evaluate progress against schedules, identifying delays or issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with 47 CES/CENM Project Managers, construction contractors, and contracting officers to resolve technical and contractual issues.
  • Provide interpretation of construction documents, support work method selections, and advise on acceptable practices.
  • Investigate and report on disputes, delays, and claims, and work with the contracting officer to correct deficiencies.
  • Prepare daily logs, safety reports, and weekly activity reports documenting construction progress and contract administration.
  • Review contractor submittals, cost breakdowns, equipment and material usage, and field inspection reports to support payment recommendations and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate formal reports related to construction quality assurance and compliance
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Construction Inspector Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Proven experience inspecting or supervising construction of large, complex commercial or federal facilities.
  • Familiarity with MILCON programming and federal construction project standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and report on technical and contractual matters.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction documents, drawings, codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with inspection documentation, daily reporting, and contract administration.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Must be eligible for U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture (encouraged).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (encouraged).
  • ICC Certifications (Required/Preferred):
    • Required:
      • 2021 or 2024 ICC National Commercial Building Inspector Certification (B2) or
      • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a commercial construction superintendent on federal, public, or private sector projects.
    • Preferred:
      • 2021 or 2024 ICC Certifications in one or more of the following categories:
        • Commercial Electrical Inspector (E2)
        • Commercial Mechanical Inspector (M2)
        • Commercial Plumbing Inspector (P2)
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
