Position Overview
The Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment at the University of Kansas seeks a full-time post-baccalaureate Research Assistant (title: Assistant Researcher). The successful candidate will work closely with Principal Investigators within the center on clinical trials and basic science research investigating substance use, decision-making, and health behaviors.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Adhere to research protocols and complete daily research-related tasks
- Communicate with the IRB and draft IRB submissions/amendments
- Manage participant recruitment, enrollment, and other study procedures
- Enter data collected online and manage data organization and security
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of study data
- Conduct literature reviews and documents to support manuscript preparation, oral presentations, poster presentations, and grant writing
- Ensure that research programs run smoothly and effectively.
The successful candidate will be provided with training in clinical assessment, laboratory paradigms, behavioral treatment methodology, and analysis of various types of data (e.g., national data). They will also gain experience in general research administration and the preparation of grants and manuscripts. Additional independent research opportunities, such as conference and manuscript submissions, will be available based on interest and experience. This position is well-suited for individuals interested in pursuing graduate training in psychology, public health, and other health-related fields.
Job Description
30% Supervision and Administrative Support
- Communicate with IRB
- Manage IRB submissions/amendments
- Oversee participant recruitment, enrollment, consent and tracking
30% Data Management and Analysis
- Collect and organize participant data
- Oversee data entry and security
- Assist with data preparation for annual review documents and progress reports.
30% Data Collection and Study Start-Up
- Assist with creation and editing of study documents, such as protocols, consent forms, and subject communications
- Screen participants for study eligibility
- Document participant visits and procedures
- Adhere to research protocols and study procedures
10% Other Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of posters and analyses for publication.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external study collaborators, including investigators, sponsors, and monitors
- Performing varied administrative support duties as required
Position Requirements
- Position will be located at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. This position will not have a remote work option
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, public health, pre-medical studies, or other related field by start date OR a High School Diploma and four years of related experience.
- Previous experience in research settings, as evidenced by application materials
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated attention to detail, as demonstrated by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or prior training in clinical psychology or behavioral medicine/health research, as evidenced by application materials.
- Research, professional experience, and/or interest in substance use and other health behaviors, as evidenced by application materials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to develop additional computer skills related to data management and statistical analysis, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Previous experience with survey administration and study management platforms such as Qualtrics or REDCap, as evidenced by application materials.
- Previous experience with programming in languages such as R, programming in excel, or other tools, as evidenced by application materials.
- Work history that required strong attention to detail, ability to function autonomously in a collaborative multidisciplinary team, as evidenced by application materials.
- Previous experience that required flexibility working in a fast-paced environment, as evidenced by application materials.
