Environmental, Operations and Construction (EOC) operates within HDR's Federal Business Group, capable of delivering services across all HDR business groups at any location. Our work is performed by our professional staff, scientists and engineers at remote sites, embedded in client office space or our own facilities. EOC delivers quality engineering, environmental, and construction management services at competitive prices.

In the role of Junior Architect, we'll count on you to:
  • Research, interpret, and apply building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies
  • Coordinate building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of building systems and materials
  • Consult with customer to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structures or renovations
  • Perform specific/limited portions of assignments using prescribed methods for a variety of architectural projects
  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating
  • Prepare plans, details and reports for project design elements; utilize relevant software programs in preparing working drawings; and develop scopes of work and project deliverables
  • Conduct observations of work during construction to monitor compliance with specifications
  • An eagerness to assist and learn from a multi-disciplined team and coordinate work through multiple phases of architectural projects
  • Attend project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants
  • Accept responsibility and assignments as they increase and diversify with skill level
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes
  • Knowledge of architectural principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Maintain a high level of performance in a fast-paced environment, adapting to and overcoming changing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and professionally with other team members and accept direction to reach common goals for successful outcomes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and projects

  • Balance project demands for multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience

  • Ability to read and write SOPs and manuals

  • Values accuracy and thoroughness in all work with strict and careful attention to detail

  • Must be able to obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance

  • Master's degree in Architecture
  • Experience in the areas of healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilities
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED
  • Knowledge of Illustrator, SketchUp and 3-D Studio Max
  • Rhino and Grasshopper experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • Must possess credentials to obtain future registration
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Desire to pursue growth opportunities and eventually obtain registration
  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
