Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate, Medical.
In this role, the successful candidate The Medical Associate performs supportive services to providers and clinical staff in the care of patients in the ambulatory care setting in accordance with the policies and procedures of NYULH-Brooklyn.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area.
- Registration functions in accordance with Registration polices including, but not limited to:
- Responsible for patient check-in and check-out.
- Translation needs & documentation.
- Gathers all patient demographic related data and materials from patients and/or their representatives.
d) Verification of Primary Care Provider.
e) Calls patients to confirm appointments.
f) Obtains insurance information (ID card, member/group #s, etc.), verify insurance eligibility electronically,
g) On subsequent visits, ask them to verify demographic info and makes any necessary edits.
h) Web enables all eligible patients for the patient portal.
- Ensure patients review and sign electronic patient related documents including
consent, financial agreement, HIPAA, HIE, etc.
- Follow up with patients and/or their representatives, physician offices, etc. to gather missing data and materials to complete the intake process or refer to more senior level staff. Scan all necessary documents (insurance cards, lab requisitions, faxed reports, etc.) into the intake EMR system.
- Greets all patients, family or other related individuals while maintaining excellent
customer service and professionalism at all times. Including observations and alerts the nursing staff of patients who appear in need of urgent care
- Retrieves laboratory and ancillary test results from the computer or contacts the lab for retrieval of the information for the providers
- Completes, retrieves and/or prints patient forms and attends staff meetings and reviews/signs minutes of meetings not attended. Maintains competence through in-service and. educational programs.
- Demonstrates EMR competency and has ability to handle emergency situations
- Obtains vital signs, height, weights, head and chest circumferences and documents accurately as needed in addition to performs venous phlebotomy/blood draws-clinical functions of general medical assistants
- Works in conjunction with the healthcare team, participating in site improvement efforts and accepting coverage assignments. Maintains cooperative and professional relationships with providers, nurses and office and clinical staff. Understands integral role as part of a healthcare team and is an active participant regarding patient workflow and barriers to care and safety concerns
- Monitor inventory of front desk supplies (paper, appointment cards, etc.) and communicate to supervisor or manager when to reorder/restock
- Telephone functions in accordance with telephone policies including, but not limited to:
- Answer phones timely in a pleasant and professional manner including identifying the facility's name and registrar's first name.
b) Identify the nature of the call and act appropriately.
c) Take messages as necessary.
d) Directs caller to appropriate person or area.
e) Perform outreach phone calls as directed by supervisor
- Demonstrates a sensitive and supportive attitude towards patients, families and/or significant others and provides translation communication as needed to facilitate the patient and provider interaction.
- Reports problems or concerns such as patient complaints, process workflows/conflicts, need for further skill training and/or other work-related matters to their supervisor
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies
- Flexible with reassignment to other laboratory locations as needed
- Records daily maintenance and temperature charts.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma and Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, BLS certified and Medical Assistant Certificate Required
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 Years outpatient ambulatory care experience, Spanish speaking
