About the Job

University Aquatics involves the scheduling, organizing, supervision, and operations of the University Aquatic Center, the Cooke Hall pools, the St. Paul Gymnasium (SPG) pool and the aquatic programs conducted in those facilities. We offer a wide variety of programs that serve a diverse population. We strive to be inclusive and welcoming to all members of the University community as well as to members of the public who utilize our services. The Coordinator for Aquatic Programs and reports directly to the Assistant Director for Aquatics. This position manages all aspects of our Gopher Swim School lesson program, and our student, youth and community-based aquatic programs. Additionally, they supervise staff, facility operations and risk management at the SPG pool. The general work hours for this position are Sunday-Thursday, 10:00am-6:30pm, with adjustments made as needed.

Direct Gopher Swim School: 70%
* Manage, maintain, and grow Gopher Swim School. This includes continued development of each program offered under Gopher Swim School, scheduling of any programs offered under Gopher Swim School, tracking budgets alongside the University Recreation and Wellness Center Finance team, developing marketing and communication plans each semester for the marketing teams to follow, providing new and innovative ideas that will support the growth of each program and the student employees.
* Hire, onboard, and schedule Program Assistants, Deck Supervisors, Instructors (Private Lesson and Group), Coaches, and other supporting roles (ex, Door Guards).
* Monitor and approve schedules and payroll for all aquatic program student employees
* Develop and implement employee training every 4-6 weeks.
* Develop and implement employee manuals, policies, practices, and protocols.
* Mentor, support, and guide all student employees and their growth to support their academic and personal goals, which will provide them with the necessary skills to enter the workforce post-graduation
* Work with various departments to support the operations of all Gopher Swim School programming that affects student employees and Gopher Swim School customers. Those departments include but are not limited to; Marketing, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Facilities, One Help IT, Membership, Office of Student Affairs, Youth Programs, Center for Outdoor Adventure, Fitness.

Facility and Risk Management Support: 20%
* Support lifeguards as needed, providing breaks, guiding correct practices according to the American Red Cross and facility rules and regulations, and occasionally filling lifeguard shifts in the event of short staff or no-show employees.
* Work closely with the St. Paul Gym Director and Facilities Coordinator, supporting the St. Paul Gym operations as needed, and providing input that will affect the operations of the pool and surrounding spaces.
* Monitor and maintain the pool spaces and equipment, gaining approval for new equipment, pool space renovations, emergency equipment updates, and adjustments that will positively impact the pool spaces and surrounding areas.
* Identify and manage the risk associated with all programming offered through Gopher Swim School and other aquatic programming.

Community Outreach: 10%
* Develop and implement community fundraising events
* Develop and implement community outreach programming such as Scholarships, food/coat drives, the Water Safety Festival, and community pool events (World's Largest Swim Lesson and World Drowning Prevention Day)
* Develop partnerships with local community organizations that support the Recreation and Wellness Center's Mission to serve the greater University community and foster supportive relationships (Breakthrough, SwimPossible)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree with four (4) years of work experience in aquatics or recreation administration, or a combination of related education and work experience to at least eight (8) years.
* Lifeguard Training and CPR/FA certifications or the ability to obtain current certifications prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree in Recreation Administration or related field
* Four years of progressive experience in Aquatics program management.
* Experience with management of part-time, student or temporary staff
* American Red Cross Certifications in the following areas: Lifeguard Training Instructor, LGT & FA Instructor Trainer.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $54,000 - $57,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 100% Appointment
