Location: Colorado Springs, CO (United States Air Force Academy)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full Time. On-call work may also be required based on operational needs.

Compensation: $29.46 - $29.46/hourly

Tessera is seeking a reliable and skilled Heavy Truck Driver to support operations at the United States Air Force Academy. The Heavy Truck Driver provides safe, efficient, and reliable operation of heavy trucks and equipment to support base-wide logistics, infrastructure maintenance, and mission readiness. This position also ensures timely transport of materials, proper equipment maintenance, and effective support of paving, grounds, and snow removal operations in compliance with DOT and USAFA standard

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Operate a variety of heavy trucks and equipment in diverse terrain and weather conditions to support base-wide logistics, maintenance, and infrastructure operations.

  • Operate equipment including tractors with semi-trailers, roll-off trucks, dump trucks with plows and sanders, street sweepers, snow blowers, skid steers, forklifts, and other CDL-required vehicles.

  • Transport materials, equipment, oversized loads safely and efficiently; secure cargo and assist with loading and unloading as needed.

  • Provide trucking services for routine cargo delivery and support tasks.

  • Perform assigned cargo deliveries, ensuring timely and secure transport of materials and supplies across the installation.

  • Conduct pre and post-trip inspections, perform preventative maintenance, refuel vehicles, and ensure all equipment is fully operational before each shift.

  • Maintain trip logs, cargo records, and required documentation in compliance with DOT and USAFA standards.

  • Maintain radio or telephone contact with dispatch or supervisors to receive instructions and respond to changing operational needs.

  • Secure cargo using appropriate restraints and verify load documentation for accuracy and compliance.

  • Support paving and roadway maintenance operations, including asphalt repair, crack sealing, concrete work, and equipment staging.

  • Install and maintain signs, fencing, and perform general grounds upkeep.

  • Perform snow and ice removal, including standby operations, to maintain safe and mission-ready roadways.

  • Maintain professionalism and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years minimum of professional heavy truck driving experience, preferably in construction, military, or government contract environments

  • Experience transporting oversized, overweight, or specialized loads such as construction equipment or refuse

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance, trip logs, and DOT compliance

  • Proven ability to operate in varied terrain and weather conditions, including snow removal and blackout operations

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • CDL Class A required.

  • A Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated pre-employment medical examination and drug screening are required. Candidates must meet federal guidelines to be considered for this position.

  • Must be registered with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and maintain a clean record per state and federal guidelines.
