Torch Technologies is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in CUAS radar systems with deep knowledge of threat detection and tracking technologies. Specializes in radar integration, signal processing, and multi-sensor fusion for low, slow, small (LSS) aerial targets. Experienced in evaluating and optimizing radar performance in complex electromagnetic environments. Supports system design, test, and deployment of CUAS solutions for defense and critical infrastructure protection.

As a CUAS Radar Systems SME your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Technical Authority: Serve as the primary technical authority on radar systems, providing expertise throughout the acquisition lifecycle. This includes but isn't limited to: array signal and data processing, clutter mitigation, antenna theory, RF design, waveform generation, electronic protection, search/track performance, classification and identification, and Electronic Warfare, and target detection.
  • Translate operational needs into clear, concise, and technically sound system requirements for radar systems. This requires a deep understanding of both the operational environment and the capabilities/limitations of radar technology.
  • Participate in the development and review of radar system architectures, ensuring designs meet performance requirements, are scalable, and are adaptable to future threats.
  • Conduct and/or oversee trade studies to evaluate different radar technologies, architectures, and components. Analyze data and provide recommendations based on technical merit, cost, and schedule.
  • Actively participate in and lead technical design reviews (Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), etc.) to assess the maturity of designs and identify potential risks.
  • Utilize or oversee the use of modeling and simulation tools to predict radar system performance under various conditions. Validate model accuracy against real-world data.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks associated with radar system development and acquisition.
  • Acquisition Planning: Contribute to the development of acquisition strategies and plans (e.g., Acquisition Program Baseline (APB)).
  • Source Selection: Participate in the evaluation of proposals from industry partners, providing technical assessments of proposed solutions. May serve on Source Evaluation Boards (SEBs).
  • Contract Management: Review and provide input on contracts, ensuring technical requirements are accurately reflected and are enforceable. Monitor contractor performance against technical specifications.
  • Test & Evaluation (T&E): Develop and review Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP) and Test Procedures. Participate in or oversee radar system testing, analyzing data and reporting results. Ensure T&E adequately validates system performance against requirements.
  • Interoperability: Assess and ensure interoperability of radar systems with other DoD systems and allied partners.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., software, mechanical, systems), program managers, logisticians, and operational users.
  • Briefings & Presentations: Prepare and deliver technical briefings and presentations to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, design reports, test reports, and trade study analyses.
  • Industry Liaison: Maintain awareness of emerging radar technologies and trends through interaction with industry representatives, participation in conferences, and review of technical literature.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
