The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist. We are seeking a highly motivated Biological or Physical Oceanographer with expertise in field based ocean bio-optics and satellite remote sensing to join our interdisciplinary research team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in collecting and analyzing in situ bio-optical data and in developing bio-optical models to assess phytoplankton functional types (PFTs) and net primary production (NPP) from space. A strong background in radiative transfer theory, optical oceanography, phytoplankton eco-physiology and the development and application of remote sensing algorithms is highly essential. The candidate should be proficient in working with data from a range of satellite sensors, with particular emphasis on hyperspectral instruments such as HICO, EMIT and PACE. Experience in integrating satellite observations with in-situ measurements to advance understanding of marine ecosystem dynamics and carbon cycling will be highly valued. This position offers the opportunity to engage in field campaigns, contribute to high-impact research, and collaborate with leading scientists in the field of ocean color and bio optical modeling. A willingness to apply for competitive research funding is expected, and prior success in securing grants will be considered a strong plus.

* Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in Oceanography, Remote Sensing, Marine Science, or a related discipline.

* Strong computational skills in languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R.

* Demonstrated publication record in relevant scientific areas.

* At least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in a related field.

The search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and will continue until the position if filled.
