The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner is a key member of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care (PACC) Medicine's clinical team. This role provides clinical support to physicians within the General Pulmonary outpatient practice and delivers supervised direct patient care to established patients.

Responsibilities



  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with clinical and administrative staff to ensure seamless and efficient patient care
  • Attend CME activities as appropriate to enhance knowledge in pulmonary medicine
  • Work alongside 2-3 physicians in the General Pulmonology practice during their office hours
  • Hold supervised office hours for established follow-up visits, four sessions per week at the CUIMC campus
  • Provide support to physicians at the White Plains NYP campus ("The One," 1111 Westchester Ave)
  • Create and maintain complete and accurate clinical documentation in EPIC
  • Provide in-basket coverage for physicians when not holding office hours, including:

    • Responding to patient inquiries and escalating to physicians as needed
    • Processing prescription refills and assisting with pharmacy-related issues


  • Assist with coverage during physician absences (e.g., in-basket management, supervised sick visits)
  • Support prescription refills and prior authorizations for specialty medications
  • Assist in prescribing durable medical equipment (e.g., supplemental oxygen, non-invasive ventilation)
  • Be available to see patients requiring urgent office visits
  • Provide patient education (e.g., inhaler technique, supplemental oxygen use, biologic self-injection)
  • Schedule first-dose visits for biologic injections and monitor patients during subsequent visits
  • Demonstrate initiative and independence in improving clinical operations
  • Promote EPIC Patient Portal usage among patients
  • Maintain cooperative and professional relationships with providers, patients, and staff
  • Assist providers with medical procedures as needed
  • Stay current with Columbia University procedures and protocols
  • Be familiar with fire/safety procedures and security protocols
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned, including patient quality and safety initiatives
  • Adhere to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance, and safety guidelines


Minimum Qualifications



  • Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, with one to two years of experience.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner (NP) (or proof of application) and Registered Nurse (RN) licenses, along with board certification.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in an outpatient medical practice environment
  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR


Other Requirements



  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
