Population Science Strategy Leader

As a key member of the Population Science Team, you will lead efforts to shape and operationalize Roche/Genentech's cross-portfolio population science strategy, ensuring that clinical research is informed by data-driven insights and representative of the populations most impacted by disease.

This role is central to embedding population science principles across the enterprise-establishing standards, strengthening scientific influence, and enabling inclusive research practices that maximize patient impact.

Working on cross-functional teams and influencing decision makers will be critical to the success of this role along with ability to efficiently sense, iterate, and adapt current recommendations, approaches, and strategies. This role will be a core member of the population science team which defines the strategy for population science and optimizing outcomes for the global Roche organization.

The Opportunity:

• Develop and implement the AIR strategy, including a robust scientific and publication framework aligned with OnePharma priorities.

• Align goals of Genentech (GNE) and Roche AIR strategies through joint planning, harmonized dashboards, and integrated governance frameworks.

• Lead internal engagement and communication efforts, such as AIR Leadership Council (LC) and AIR Network coordination.

• Define foundational principles to integrate population science effectively and drive meaningful impact.

• Build and maintain cross-functional standards, tools, and methodologies, collaborating with enabling functions across clinical development and research lifecycles.

• Lead strategic publication efforts, producing high-impact publications, conference presentations, and policy advocacy materials.

• Represent Roche internationally in scientific, regulatory, and policy forums, establishing Roche as a leader in inclusive research.

• Monitor the evolving global landscape, addressing regulatory trends, stakeholder demands, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) expectations.

• Develop innovative collaborations and partnerships, overseeing strategic external engagements in emerging relationships.

• Define measurable KPIs for AIR, health equity, and ESG, ensuring accountability and progress reporting.

• Shape and drive Roche's ESG work, integrating real-world outcomes and population health frameworks across the R&D lifecycle.

• Lead biologic, social, and demographic inclusion initiatives, embedding these factors into clinical research strategies and operations.

• Create cross-functional business solutions, enabling consistent inclusion of underrepresented populations in clinical research and evidence generation.

• Establish and scale enterprise-wide standards for integrating population science across drug development lifecycles.

• Foster knowledge-sharing and capability-building across Roche, ensuring operational consistency and the widespread application of inclusive research practices.

Who You Are:

• 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical development, public health, epidemiology, or related fields

• Advanced degree (e.g., MPH, PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline

• Proven track record of developing and executing cross-portfolio strategies, particularly in population science, clinical research, or health outcomes

• Deep knowledge of the clinical development process and population-level data applications

• Skilled in establishing enterprise standards, methodologies, and scalable solutions

• Extensive experience in strategy development and linking strategy to tactics.

• Strong analytical acumen with experience in business case development

• Good understanding of disease/drug development to translate competitive/industry insights into actions.

• Experience in End-to-End visioning and architecting, enterprise process design.

• Experienced in external engagement (e.g., publications, regulatory dialogue, policy or academic collaboration)

• Strong analytical skills with ability to synthesize insights into action and value

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions, influence without authority, and navigate complexity

This position will be located in South San Francisco or Basel site. Expectation of ongoing and sustained campus presence at the site in compliance with local requirements.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CAis: $167,800 - $311,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
