Your Role We are seeking a College Intern with interest in becoming a Metal Stamping Tool Design and Development Engineer to join our Connection Systems North America (CS NA) team within our Signal & Power Solutions segment. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of high-speed progressive metal stamping tools for the automotive industry. Key job responsibilities for this role include:
- Design and Develop Cutting-Edge Tools: Create and refine progressive die designs for high-speed metal stamping, supporting the production of critical automotive terminals.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Optimize existing tools to reduce waste, improve uptime, and enhance overall efficiency.
- Collaborate and Innovate: Work closely with Product Engineering and Sales on new product development, from concept to production.
- Manage Tooling Projects: Oversee tool quotes, risk assessments, funding, purchase orders, and project timelines.
- Embrace Digital Transformation: Model existing AutoCAD tool designs into NX, improving die design and part manufacturing processes.
- Ensure Quality and Compliance: Maintain adherence to customer-specific requirements and industry standards.
- Partner with Suppliers: Develop and collaborate with external suppliers for tool design and build.
- Global Knowledge Sharing: Share and learn best practices with Aptiv's global teams.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD or BricsCAD, and ideally Unigraphics 3DNX or SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of close tolerance tools and measuring devices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Ability to interpret tool and part prints, perform measurements, and conduct experiments.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for short durations.
