Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The Department of Biology provides undergraduate and graduate education in biology, conducts biological research using competitive extramural grants and internal funding mechanisms, and provides its expertise to the community in the areas of biotechnology, human biology, and enviromental biology. The Department offers instruction in more than 250 courses to more than 5,000 students per calendar year, using an instructional team of 38 full-time faculty, over 20 graduate teaching assistants, and dozens of undergraduate ub-lab instructional assistants. The Department offers advanced research training to undergraduate and graduate students in Biology, based on the research activities of the Department's tenure-track faculty, many of whom work with local, regional, national, and international collaborators in academe and in industry. |
Position Summary |
The Business Officer's main purpose is to serve the administrative needs of the Biology department, its expanding numbers of full-time faculty, its supported graduate students, and undergraduate student employees working in the research labs of the Department.
Management of Human Resources issues for the Department: (30% effort)
Supervisory roles in the Department: (30% effort)
Management of financial operations: (20% effort)
General administrative support to the Biology office and the Department Head: (20% effort)

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related business area and 2-4 years of experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

- Knowledge of Banner.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working in a university environment.
