Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Kinesiology Department (https://kin.uncg.edu/) has 27 full-time faculty in the sub-disciplines of Applied Neuromechanics, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Sport & Exercise Psychology, Pedagogical Kinesiology, and Sports Medicine. The department is one of ten departments or programs in the School of Health and Human Sciences ( https://hhs.uncg.edu/) at UNCG. Kinesiology faculty have a history of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service, and the doctoral program was highly ranked in the most recent (2019, 2023) National Academy of Kinesiology national rankings of doctoral programs in kinesiology. The department is located in a modern facility with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and access to extensive classroom space. Kinesiology is the 5th largest department at UNCG serving approximately 700 undergraduates and 175 graduate students. The department offers B.S., M.S., M.S.A.T., and Ph.D. degrees on campus, as well as an online Ed.D. and M.S. in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Position Summary
We are seeking an Academic Professional Track Assistant/Associate Professor to serve as the Physical Activity Instructional Program Coordinator for the Department of Kinesiology. This is a 9-month appointment with the potential to teach summer classes. The Academic Professional Track offers non-tenured rankings of Assistant Professor through Professor, with an emphasis on teaching and other professional responsibilities. Appointments are renewable.
We are seeking a colleague to facilitate and coordinate the physical activity instruction program within the Department of Kinesiology and across the UNCG campus. Typical duties include:

  • Teaching departmental courses (e.g., Strength Training and Conditioning, Lifetime Wellness, Physical Activity Instruction, Exercise Prescription) and physical activity courses.
  • Coordination of the physical activity instructional program (e.g., scheduling, equipment management).
  • Onboarding, training, and supervision of roughly 12-15 graduate assistants teaching physical activity courses in the department at the beginning of the fall semester.
  • Advising undergraduate students with semester course selections and planning their path to graduation.
  • Engagement in departmental, university, and community service is expected. In particular, the candidate is expected to develop strong working relationships with other physical activity-related entities across the University (e.g., athletics, campus recreation, student and employee wellness programs).


Minimum Qualifications

  • The candidate must hold a doctorate degree in kinesiology or related area.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience organizing and promoting community- and/or institution-based physical activity programs is preferred.
  • Special consideration may be given to individuals who can teach human anatomy/physiology as well as those with certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and/or other reputable fitness-oriented organizations.
