Job Description:

Microchip's Data Center Solutions Business Unit (DCS) delivers leading performance, reliability, and scalability for next-generation compute, connectivity, and storage. As an Architect - External Development Enablement, you will provide technical and strategic leadership in managing global design house engagements. This role is pivotal in ensuring Microchip effectively leverages external partners and industry ecosystems to accelerate product innovation, align with market demands, and maintain competitive advantage.

As an Architect within the Microchip Data Center Solutions group, you will define engagement strategies, oversee technical deliverables from partner design houses, and align solutions with Microchip's product roadmap. You will collaborate across engineering, standards bodies, and business development teams to maximize value from ecosystem partnerships while ensuring design quality and execution excellence.

The ideal candidate brings a blend of deep technical expertise, ecosystem partnership experience, and leadership skills to scale development through external collaboration.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership across engagements with external design houses, ensuring alignment with Microchip's product and architectural goals.
  • Define partnership models and execution frameworks for leveraging third-party design capabilities at scale.
  • Translate customer requirements and market trends into actionable technical deliverables for external partners.
  • Oversee specification, architecture, and design reviews, ensuring external outputs meet Microchip's standards of quality, performance, and security.
  • Drive ecosystem alignment, collaborating with industry leaders, OEMs, and standards bodies to ensure Microchip remains at the forefront of innovation.
  • Collaborate with system, SoC, and software architects to incorporate external contributions into the broader product architecture.
  • Support business development and product marketing by evaluating partner capabilities and identifying co-design opportunities that enhance time-to-market.
  • Mentor internal and partner engineering teams to ensure consistency in design methodology, documentation, and execution rigor.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in ASIC/SoC architecture, system design, or related leadership roles.
  • Proven success in leading external design houses or partner engineering teams.
  • Strong background in computer architecture, SoC development, interconnects (PCIe, CXL, Ethernet), and memory/storage subsystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer/system-level requirements into architectural specifications.
  • Experience navigating complex multi-party partnerships and aligning deliverables across organizations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, including executive-level engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience building or managing ecosystem partnerships across OEMs, ODMs, or hyperscalers.
  • Active participation in industry standards organizations (PCI-SIG, OCP, CXL Consortium, etc.).
  • Familiarity with external development models, including outsourced ASIC/SoC design, IP integration, and co-development programs.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to align technical direction with market opportunity.
  • Track record of customer-centric innovation and delivering products through collaboration with external partners.
  • MBA or equivalent industry experience in business-technology alignment is a plus.
