Starting rate: $52.56/hour



Overall Purpose:
Under general supervision, investigates, resolves, and documents findings of suspected energy diversion, tampering, theft, redistribution or other unlawful customer behavior, as well as other conditions causing loss of company revenue. Provides technical guidance and expertise regarding proper and accurate metering in the Duquesne Light Company tariff.



Job Responsibilities:
1. Conducts field investigations of single and poly-phase services to determine if the service is properly metered. Documents evidence of energy diversion, tampering, theft, redistribution, or other unlawful or improper customer behavior and brings to successful resolution.

2. Consults and cooperates with internal and external groups as needed to support the investigation and prosecution of unlawful customer behavior.

3. Utilizes all available technological platforms to proactively identify suspicious usage patterns, voltage irregularities, power down / power up events on meters, tampering alerts, and other indicators relating to energy diversion or improperly metered services

4. Assists management in researching customer accounts with confirmed occurrences of energy diversion to build a thorough understanding of all unlawful or improper actions taken by the customer or other associated parties. Accurately documents investigative
findings and requirements in the appropriate DLCO customer systems or other reports as necessary.

5. Investigates services where wiring approvals are required to ensure no theft or other unsafe actions are occurring during that process.

6. Identify and resolve dangerous conditions uncovered during the course of normal duties.

7. Identify meters that can be removed from the field and ensure services are properly removed from the system.

8. Performs all work in accordance with OSHA and Company safety regulations of practices.

9. Performs other work related to the above as assigned or required.



Education / Experience Requirements:
1. Seven (7) years of Field Meter Technician experience preferred or three (3) years of Field Meter Technician experience and an Associate's level technical degree or equivalent.

2. Must pass the company administered EEI standardized test (CAST)

3. Working knowledge of electrical systems/metering used for commercial, industrial and residential applications including single phase, poly-phase and transformer rated type services.

4. Must possess critical, analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions based on experience, training, and documented processes and procedures.

5. Must possess strong computer skills.

6. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with customers andexternal stakeholders such as law enforcement or other public forums. Must becomfortable with public speaking in circumstances where court testimony may be needed.

7. Must have a valid state driver's license.

Good physical condition, ability to work outdoors and safely drive in all weather conditions.
Ability to bend, stoop, climb steps, and perform all required tasks under various physical and
environmental conditions. May be required to work from a ladder or aerial lift.
