A Brief Overview This is a wonderful full-time, benefitted opportunity with the Philadelphia campus to support in-house education to patient families on car seat safety and identifying various specialized restraints used for people with disabilities and supports the Hospital's Safety Center. Experience in providing community or public health education setting and providing support to families is required. Responsible for all functions related to the Injury Prevention Program in the Hospital. Provides personalized safety education to families and assists with identifying various specialized restraints used for people with disabilities and supports the Hospital's Safety Center. Serves as a child passenger safety expert for medical staff and knowledge expert on adaptive safety equipment used for transportation. Essential Functions Act as the Coordinator for the people with disabilities child passenger safety program
- Maintain certification as a car seat technician.
- Knowledge of current best practice recommendations.
- Maintain extensive knowledge on adaptive safety equipment used for transportation.
- Act as a resource for staff in identifying the appropriate restraint for travel in a motor vehicle.
- Establish and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
- Benchmark against other children's hospitals with similar programs.
- Work in collaboration with various departments in the hospital.
- Inform and discuss program plans and schedule with the Injury Prevention Manager on a regular basis.
- Communicate frequently with the Injury Prevention Program and supports the Hospital's Safety Center.
- Create and maintain a database to collect and track information on all aspects of the program.
Ensure that families are provided with accurate, thorough safety education, which addresses their individual needs.
- Develop and maintain an efficient system to identify families and departments needing assistance with transportation.
- Identify various specialized restraints used during transportation for people with disabilities and become intimately involved with these seats.
- Cultivate a relationship with child restraint companies who manufacture specialized child restraints.
- Create and manage an in-house loaner program for adaptive seats.
- Provide resources and conduct education programs to staff and inpatients
- Maintain, identify and/or design education/patient family education sheets.
- Maintain own knowledge and expertise by staying up-to-date on current recommendations.
- Provide evidence-based or evidence-informed programs when providing education.
- Evaluate programs for efficacy, efficiency, quality and appropriateness of information provided.
Acts as a resource for medical staff in identifying the appropriate restraint for patients during travel in a motor vehicle.
- Develop a collaborative working relationship with other hospital departments.
- Provide guidance on best practice and correct positioning in child restraints.
- Evaluate various safety seat options to determine transportation options.
- Collaborate with the medical team to ensure proper fit and use of the child restraint in combination with medical needs.
- Assist with proper positioning during tolerance screening.
- Develop brochures, audiovisual aids and presentation handouts.
- Generate a semi-annual report documenting program statistics and accomplishments.

Participate in activities of the Injury Prevention Program
- Actively participate in Injury Prevention Program activities as necessary.
- Act as a safety expert and resource for families and staff.
- Participate in one child safety check a month to maintain hands-on skill of child safety seat installation.
- Educate and cross-train Injury Prevention staff on transportation for people with disabilities.
Identify, pursue and obtain sources of program support and/or grant funding for adaptive transportation devices.
- Coordinate with Development on grant proposals.
- Seek and obtain funding through other venues.
- Complete grant proposals and reports as needed.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Public Health, Health Education or related field Required
- Master's Degree Public Health or Health Education Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Community or Public Health Educational experience Required

Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles - upon hire - Required and
- Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) - National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program - within 3 months - Required

$61,360.00 - $78,230.00 Annually
