This position sits on site at our Reading, PA office.

Purpose
The Principal Civil Engineer will provide expert civil engineering services to Worley and its clients, offering technical guidance, supervision, and leadership within the Civil Engineering team. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver civil engineering services that meet Worley's and its clients' standards, as well as applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.

  • Supervise, guide, and mentor junior and intermediate civil engineering staff.

  • Advise Lead Engineers, Project Management, and other disciplines on environmental law requirements relevant to projects.

  • Manage Civil Engineering resource hours and scheduling.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on civil engineering matters.

  • Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies between Worley's and clients' requirements.

  • Stay current with the latest developments, innovations, and best practices in civil engineering.

  • Lead site earthwork planning and land development initiatives.

  • Design site grading, drainage systems, haul roads, crossings, access roads, and facilities infrastructure.

  • Design railroad systems and related infrastructure.

  • Prepare Stormwater Management Plans, including retention/detention ponds, lift stations, controlled discharge systems, and Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.

  • Design underground utilities, including culverts and subdrains.

  • Prepare Civil MTOs, project cost estimates, tender documentation, and conduct tender evaluations.

  • Prepare and review civil engineering specifications, calculations, and technical reports.

  • Identify issues and develop effective solutions, seeking guidance when necessary.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in project leadership and team management.

  • Experience in estimating project costs and preparing technical proposal content.

  • Strong technical and practical engineering skills, with a track record of delivering high-quality, accurate, and timely work.

  • In-depth knowledge of local and international civil engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong understanding of civil earthworks design, including environmental and geotechnical considerations.

  • Working knowledge of related engineering disciplines.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Proficiency in civil engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience in multidisciplinary projects and collaborative team environments.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain immediately upon hire.

  • Minimum 12 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
